Rex Boydan Holloway was born August 19, 1920, 3 miles Northeast of Grand, Ok the third child of Lewis Paul and Beatrice (Frost) Holloway. Surrounded by family, Rex passed away in his home on March 26, 2009, at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 7 days.

Rex attended grade school at Mt. Zion Grade School and graduated from Arnett High School with the Class of 1939. Rex joined the Army in July of 1940 after being convinced by the Colonel to join Troop A 253 Quarter Master Corp Remount at Ft. Reno. After completion of basic training with the 165 men under his command, he was promoted to 1st Sergeant. Rex served at Ft. Reno which he maintained and trained 17,700 head of horses and 7,500 head of mules for WWII. In 1944 his troop was shipped to India, Burma, and China where his Troop supplied horses and mules for carrying the supplies to the front lines. He was very proud of his service to his country.

He moved to Grand after his military service with brothers Marvin and Darwin and later purchased the land. Rex Boydan was united in marriage to Aldyth Winnie Stewart on April 15, 1948, in Arnett, Oklahoma. They lived in Grand and Arnett. To this union three children were born; Connie Lue, Rex Boyd and Louis Paul.

Rex was baptized on December 20, 1950, and was a member of the Arnett First Baptist Church. Rex enjoyed working in the outdoors, quail hunting and fishing. Farming and ranching was his life including haying for hire, dairying and raising his black angus. Throughout his life Rex loved raising horses and training them for Polo, Jumping and racing. However his greatest love was for his wife of 60 years and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Aldyth (12-28-08), by his parents, 2 brothers Darwin Holloway and wife Virginia and Marvin Holloway and wife Betty, 1 sister Josia Lee Mitchell, brothers and sister-in-laws Cordie Holloway, Archie Stewart, Matthew and Eileen Doyel, Grant and Gladys Sipe, Margie Stewart, Verda Stewart, Lola Kretz, Reba Stewart, and Arleen Stewart. Rex is survived by his children Connie Shoaf and husband Will, Rexie Holloway and wife Kathy, Louie Holloway and wife Myrna, all of Arnett; 1 brother Vaden Holloway of Perryton, Tx; 1 sister Paula Floyd and husband Ray Bob of Gilbert, Az;, brothers and sister-in-law Charles Mitchell of Wickenburg, Az, Roy Kretz of Shattuck, Lucille Stewart of Shattuck; 10 Grandchildren, Amy Miller and husband John, Bryan Shoaf and wife Shannon, Jena and Ryan Holloway, Krista, Kiley, and Kevin Holloway, all of Arnett; Shannon Gilchrist and wife Diana of Wichita, Ks; Tonya Snider and husband Todd of Woodward; Tara Gallegos and husband Donald of Brighton, Co; 15 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, other family, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in the Arnett High School Auditorium, Arnett, Oklahoma with burial following in DeBolt Cemetery. Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Arnett, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made at shawfuneralhome.net
