Rex Thomas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 9, 2022.
Rex Lawson Thomas, 62, of San Antonio, Texas, succumbed to a long-battled heart condition surrounded by his family on July 16, 2022. Rex was born in Brownfield, Texas July 3, 1960. He attended Seagraves Highschool where he played football as a Seagraves Eagle.

Rex is survived by daughters Brittney Nicole Willingham (Thomas) and Victoria Jean Thomas, sons Brandon Lawson Thomas and Denton Edward Thomas, brother Gene Lee Thomas and four grandchildren Sofia Grace and Brandon Lawson Thomas and James Cashton and Brooklyn Maizey Willingham. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Lawson and Susie Lorene, sister Jo Ann Stamps and son Judd Wyatt.

Rex loved sports, especially his Texas Tech Red Raiders. He worked for many years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas but was forced to give up his career due to his declining health. He spent his free time watching various sports games live and on TV; He also enjoyed movies, Scooby-Doo and reading, especially the sports section of the newspaper. He was an avid Andy Griffith lover and Bonanza fan. Some of his favorite times were spent coaching his children's little league baseball teams and attending his sons football games. He was known for his potato chip sandwiches and grape Kool-Aid slushies. He answered to many names; bozo, buzzard, butthead, red, humps...of them all Paw-Paw became his favorite. He enjoyed weekly lunches with his grandsons at Little Red Barn and weekend breakfasts with the whole family at Grumpy's. Rex was a friend to many and loved his family very much.

Funeral services for Rex will be a First Baptist Church of Loop Texas on Friday, August 12 at 11am. Rex will be laid to rest at Loop Cemetery in Loop, Texas.

I was a friend of Rex in school. He always had a smile and a positive attitude. He was a really good guy.
My sympathies to his family.

Uncle Rex, thank you so much for all the fun times in the last that you have given me. And thank you for all the support you have given me as well. From staying over to your house till our 4 AM conversations on the phone. I wouldn´t trade the world for any of it. Thank you for always being there to talk to me no matter what time of day it was. We would share our love for wrestling, call each other "Miz loving buzzard". (Our inside joke). I´m going to miss you. I´m gonna miss our 4 AM conversations and I´m gonna miss going over to Uncle Rex`s house. I know you´re home now where you belong. I´ll miss you, ya big Miz loving buzzard!

Lots of love from your (favorite San Antonio Niece) -Cierra
