Rhettmor Brinkman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 8, 2023.
RHETTMOR SHILEY BRINKMAN

For a short time I had the opportunity to be his father. Rhett is one of the bravest people I have known. One day Rhett had a choice, he could finish his peas on his plate or he could finish the peas from the serving bowl. He chose to finish the untouched pile of peas on his plate; when he was done I showed him the bottom of the serving bowl and the five or 6 peas remaining. He chuckled and outwardly laughed about his choice.

Rhett was named after a reference to myself that an aunt had given me and a family member that served in WW II. My aunt had bravely battled cancer for 18 years before losing that battle. Donald Shiley was a WW II pilot that was at Pearl Harbor and flew reconnaissance in the Pacific. At a young age his plane was blown out of the sky ending the Shiley Family name. Rhett is survived by, among others, an older brother that has proudly changed his last name , and two sister. I can't imagine the pain they all feel having already lost a sister to cancer and parents to divorce.

Rhett, in his own way, and when it seemed no one else would, bravely stood up to oppositions that faced him;

Those were his choices as he weighed in the size of the servings.

Like his name sakes he lost that battle and thus his life ended as did the family name.

Rhett you are missed by many and are now with your true father in heaven;

Mit?kuye Oy?s?i?

In lieu of a funeral or service of any kind ...

With the many thoughts and warm wishes I've received I have learned so much.

From so many I was reminded by what was summed up by a fellow athlete, neighbor and lifelong friend...the power of reflection and prayer

Join in Vigil to Rhett, for just one minute of your time,

Wether you are alone or with your family, friends, team, or organization;

On Friday's, in the morning at 7 am; Following your own customs and beliefs, offer a prayer to Rhett and if you are so inclined another minute to the many friends and family that you know, that are struggling with their own battles, that they might find Harmony in this world.

One or two minutes of time a week, it can't hurt.

Words are fleeting. Memories tend to fade. Yet love, especially the love for a child, remain in our heart forever. My condolences and prayers are with you and your family.

Rhett and I were in cub scouts, all the way through to boy scouts. We attended the same school and same daycare. We even fought over the same girls. Our sisters being friends we were always gravitated to each other and our friendship. I sadly fell out of touch since I left Boy Scouts but I would still text him for his birthday and such. Rhett was a kid who actually cared about people and their feelings. I remember the troop getting in disagreements but Rhett and I were just there making fun of it all and laughing at the ignorance. I remember his laugh is what always made things funnier than it was. But Rhett would always take a moment to go check in on the little guy. He was a good soul and a good person. I wish we hadn't lost touch.
