Richard Arave Obituary
He died Sunday in a rafting accident, while floating the Southfork of the Boise River, an unexpected end to a life spent exploring remote and beautiful places in Idaho.
Richard grew up in Blackfoot, ID and attended ISU in Pocatello. He married Mary Stone-Arave on Aug. 29, 1981.
He attended dental school at OSHU then moved to Boise to start a practice and raise a family. Richard was a diligent dentist, a skilled outdoorsman and an avid traveler. He approached everything in life with genuine enthusiasm. He was a profoundly good man, and a loving husband, father, and friend.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his sons, Jared and Ethan, his mother, June, and his brother, Pete. He is preceded in death by his father, Marshall Arave, his sister, Connie Irwin, and his brother, Rob Arave.
Please join us for a memorial, Friday, July 1, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m., at 2007 N. 24th St, Boise, for a potluck and celebration of his life.

There aren't words, Mary. I'm available for hugs, wine or whatever you need. I'm trying to absorb your sadness so your heart will be lighter and your burden will be less.
Sadly, Rich moved on to his next adventure before either of you were ready. Mother Nature can be so unforgiving. Rich will be waiting for you with a racquet or a paddle; but mostly with a smile and his hand outstretched for you to join him whenever you're both ready.

Dr. Arave was like no other. He was my dentist since the age of 5, 26 years. I lived out of state at one point and went to another dentist, it was a horrible experience. After that I realized how lucky I was to have Dr. Arave and would make sure to make an appointment when I knew I would be back in Boise. He was kind and friendly. He was conservative in his treatments and you knew you could trust him. Going into his office was always a comfortable experience, never stuffy, always friendly. My heart aches for him, his family, the office family (Kay, Tanya, everyone else), and all his patients. He will be greatly missed.

A year after I started at HP a co-worker highly recommended Dr. Arave. He has been my dentist since, for 25 years. He was a wonderful dentist that truly cared about his patients. I moved to Boise to attend BSU and received a call saying that there was a new dentist in town ..Dr. Arave almost 30 years ago....have been going to him ever since. He was so gentle and kind! One memory was Dr. Arave saying he was recruited to a mixed doubles tennis team because they really wanted his wife's tennis skills on the team. I'm so sorry to learn of Dr Araves passing. We moved to Texas from Boise 5 years ago but still came to Dr. Arave for our dental needs every year because I trusted him immensely. He was our dentist for many years. This is still hard to believe, I saw him for a check-up just a couple of weeks ago. He was the most gentle, kind dentist you could ever imagine, meticulous in the care he gave.

I am devastated by the news of Dr. Arave's passing. I have been going to Arave's since I was a little kid, I think he even told me once that he had a file on me dating back to 1995, when I was six years old. He was my first ever dentist and the only dentist I have ever had since then. He was so positive and upbeat not to mention funny, He was just an overall nice friendly guy. I learned of Dr. Arave's passing only a few hours after telling a friend how much I loved my dentist. He always made my dental visit enjoyable. He was a kind and gentle soul. He teased me all the time that he'd never "get his Cadillac" off my teeth because they were so well taken care of!! I always told him there was Blaine he could always try to get that coveted car from! I think we visited more about the love of his family and what each of them were doing then we did about my teeth! Rich is going to be missed do much. He was always incredibly kind and happy. We will miss you on the tennis court buddy. We will pray for God's comfort to surround Mary and the boys. Our hearts break for you. Love Richard and Rita

Dr. Arave was very good to me when I worked in his office performing dental hygiene care for his patients. He was a kind and patient man and his patients and staff loved him.

For once in my life I liked going to the dentist. It was all because of 'doc'. He was so easy going and made me feel comfortable which is why I stayed with him for 16 years. I actually looked forward to my appointments. In fact I used to tease him that I wouldn't recognize him in public because he always had that mask on. My sincere condolences to his family. I will miss him alot
