Richard Armitage Obituary
Vero Beach, FL
Richard Leighton Armitage of Vero Beach died on Sunday, May 13 following a long battle with cancer. He was 84.
Richard was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1933 and attended Martin Behrman High School. He graduated from Purdue University in 1955 and received a Commission in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Brush as Chief Engineer between 1956 and 1958. He then joined Union Carbide Corporation and worked as a Chemical Engineer all over the world until his retirement in 2001. A lifelong lover of the Classics, Richard became an accomplished painter in retirement.
Richard was a devoted and loving husband and father. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Margaret, his sons Al and Michael, his sister Ann Benson and his grandchildren Brent, Hannah, Leighton and Nick.

Dear Margaret, I just found out about Dick's passing today and feel so sad for you and your family over your loss. Tom and I extend our deepest sympathy and love to you and your family.

Dick had responsibility for the Torrance, CA Terminal for several years and everyone respected his judgment and liked him. He was a friend and mentor to the terminal. I personally had many laughs and fun with him over the years and went deep sea fishing together on Virgil Leques boat out of Redondo Beach. Dick had a great sense of humor and was a talented painter and poet. We stayed friends after retirement and would always hook up when he came to visit his son.
