Richard "Dick" Newell Barnard

Dick Barnard, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara H. Barnard. He also is survived by four children: R. Kent (Pamela) Barnard, Michael H. Barnard, Brian D. Barnard and Alicia M. (Dennis) Lesser. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Newell Harry Barnard and Marie Louise Barnard and his sister Judith Marie Barnard.

Dick was born into the printing business on April 3, 1936, in Bertha, Minnesota where his parents owned the Bertha Herald. The family later moved to Forest Lake where they owned the Forest Lake Times. After selling the Times, they moved to South Minneapolis where Dick was graduated from Washburn High School in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart Barb (of Roosevelt H.S) on September 5, 1958, moved to Minneapolis and joined his father's printing company and the Minnesota National Guard.

A move to Burnsville in 1964 was followed in 1968 by a new career with Hart Press (Banta Publications) and a move to Long Prairie. Dick then became a gentleman farmer and enjoyed his part-time gig as a farmer and exercising by chasing cattle and horses up and down the South River Road.

Dick and Barb moved to beautiful West Bloomington in 1993, where Dick continued his printing career with Banta at The Press in Chanhassen. After retirement they moved back to Long Prairie until their move to Plymouth last fall.

Dick enjoyed travel with his family, including vacation trips to Duluth and around Lake Superior as well as visiting relatives and the southern part of the U.S. in a long overdue retirement. He had an off-beat sense of humor that will be missed by his family...although it is hereditary! He also loved practical jokes. The statute of limitations has run out!

Visitation and celebration of life on Friday, July 11 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, One North Road, Circle Pines and Saturday, July 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 2nd Ave. S.E,. Long Prairie. Visitation 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m. (both locations).
