Dick had a very significant impact on our lives that has lasted for 50 years now. He helped us understand that Christianity was not just a religion or belief, but it was actually a way of life. It has served us well over the years. We appreciate the impact that his kindness and wisdom had on us, our family and so many other people.

Not sure why I thought of Dick B today but indeed if I had been led to ALCC my life would still be adrift. I attend ALCC bible school and fellowshipped there from 1985-1998. He was given a vision for ALCC and church planting and he followed that vision. I just hope and pray that I too share the same courage to "press in" the kingdom. Bless the ALCC family!

The most significant impact on my life was the anointing of the Holy Spirit in Dick Benjamin's life. I was at ALCC in the 70's and saw the moving of the Holy Spirit that I have not seen anywhere else. Dick was an inspiration and example that impacted the lives of hundreds if not thousands of people. I am still grateful for the teaching at ALCC in the services and the bible school. It has been a spiritual compass that has guided me through my life. Thank you Dick for your dedication to Jesus Christ. I am now a missionary in the Philippines

I am so thankful and blessed for the time that I got to be at Abbott Loop and hear Dick's preaching and teaching. Almost weekly I will mention to someone, something that I remember Dick saying from one of his messages. And that was 45 years ago! What an impact he had on my life!

I credit Dick B. for planting a seed in my heart to really KNOW Jesus, and to hunger and thirst after His righteousness....That seed has grown into a strong tree over the last 40 years of my life, and I will always be grateful, blessed, and thankful.

So many wonderful memories of Dick B and family! I came to Alcc as a 16 year old Jesus People with long hair and moccasins. We sat on the floor and slowly became part of the congregation. I loved singing before he preached and the many outings to minister with Dick. He drove and I sat in the back to preserve my and his integrity. All praise to God for the glorious reunion pastor B is enjoying. Prayers and hugs for Rick and sis.

Dick has been part of my family since before I was born! I loved hearing about the adventures he and my Dad had in the early years of their lifelong friendship and the birth of Abbott Loop Chapel and watching them in our home movies! Dick and Carol were godly influences in my life from birth and I'm so thankful to God for that legacy.
I'd been thinking of Dick a lot recently, although we hadn't been in touch since shortly after my mom died 2 weeks after Carol. On August 9th, I was missing hearing his signature song, But Until Then so I pulled up a version of it being sung by someone else and sang along in his honor. A week later, I heard he'd gone Home the very next day. I would have LOVED to have seen that reunion between Dad and Mom and Dick and Carol and Zelma! What a day of rejoicing! So Until Then....with JOY I'll carry on; Running the Race, Fighting the Fight. See you at the Finish Line!

I never met Richard Sr, but went to school with Rick. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I am amazed at the robust life he led, and the wonderful legacy he has left behind. May he Rest In Peace and May your family find solace in his absence.

I was mesmerized by his word from the pulpit; explaining the origins and backgrounds of scripture. I was thrilled by his handiwork on the Hammond B-3. I would come with Andy Johnson and work on the original main chapel. I am so thankful to have known him. Hail the Goer!

Dick Benjamin and Hugh Rounds were instrumental in leading my dad to the Lord, after which Joseph DeWolfe (Jody, to Dick and Carol) married my mother, Anita (Houghton) DeWolfe, and my sisters and I were born. My childhood is filled with wonderful memories of Dicks singing, joking around with my dad, great sermons, his precious "Mother-In-Love", Zelma Rounds, teaching Sunday School...and later, as a young girl, Carol's inspiring ladies retreats...so many more memories of my own, with stories told by my dad of other exploits with Dick B. I am who I am because of them. All glory to God! Love and prayers to Sue and Rick and family.

We only heard today of Rick's passing. He has left behind a huge whole but an even larger legacy and lineage of spiritual children. He had an amazing heart and a brilliant memory which he used to pray for so many of us who had been raised in the spiritual greenhouse he founded. Our roots and foundations are strong in large part because of the Benjamin family ministry. Well done indeed was this faithful servant's life. God's blessings and comfort to Rick, Delores, Susan and Jesse.

My whole life changed after being invited by a friend to come to Alaska and attend Bible School at Abbott Loop Christian Center. 37 years ago I arrived and Dick became more to me than just pastor, teacher and church founder; he became a good friend. I realized the first time I attended a service at Abbott Loop that I was at home, and I so appreciate Dick and all those who've led alongside him through the years. His integrity was unmatched and his success was found in solid Biblical foundations and strong teaching administered with great love. We learned to love and really care for each other under his leadership.
I met my husband after he moved here from an Abbott Loop outreach church in Juneau. We are both very grateful for Dick Benjamin and his obedience to the Lord. Blessings to Rick, Deloris, Susan, Jessie, and the entire family.

Such a privilege to have known Dick Benjamin and his family. I first met Dick and Carol in the early years when he worked at the bank, and Carol at an insurance company. So many years have gone by. Dick was a man of integrity, who loved God. Such a blessing to have known him.

We are sorry for the loss for the family and the ALCC community but greatly rejoice in the homegoing for Dick. Noteworthy as I read the entries on the guest book are the names I knew 35-40 years ago that have continued in the faith, a testimony to Dick's heart to live out John 15:16 and bring forth fruit that remains. Dick has fought the good fight and finished the race and it is a joy to know that he is in the presence of Jesus.

When I came to Abbott Loop Chapel to see what my younger sister had gotten mixed up in, I realized this was a place I wanted to be mixed up in also!
Going through my senior year in the high school, then some Bible school, getting married and raising my family there, I was grateful for all the wonderful teaching I received. I didn't have too much of that to draw on so it was a godsend!
After my husband became an elder, then a pastor, the teaching and great examples to us were always there to rely on.
And meeting people that came to our home group provided us with relationships that last to this day.
To say the Benjamin's changed the course of my life would be putting it lightly! I'm so thankful that Dick and Carol Benjamin followed Jesus and thus influenced so many, including me and my family.
I'm glad he is now enjoying his reward and getting to be with all that have gone before. What a great time he is having!!!
I know it is difficult to lose a parent, so my prayers are with Rick and Susan and their families and all the rest of us that held him in high regard, also. May God richly bless you all...

Dave and I grieve for your loss and rejoice at Dick's home-going.

My clearest memory of Dick is when he laid hands on Dave and me and agreed with us that God would do whatever it takes for our family to be completely His. Less than month later we were expecting out third child! God has a sense of humor!

I became a Christian while in the army stationed at Fort Richardson Alaska and was invited to church at Abbott Loop by my Christian room mate. There I witnessed Christianity in action for the first time.Through that experience I gave my life to Christ and my life has never been the same.I have to say I felt intimidated by Dick as a new Christian but, after spending time talking we Dick I found him to be very caring and personable. I had the honor of having Dick marry Susan and I in May of 2001 in Alliance Ohio and will forever be grateful for having known Dick and Carol. They will be greatly missed, with fond memories. Dick Benjamin was truly a good man. I knew him for a few decades and in different situations, from Pastor, to father of his kids, to devoted husband to Carol until her death and beyond. I'm thankful to have know him and his wonderful wife Carol. Colleen Frommer

We are so thankful to have known Dick and to have sat under his teaching. His careful respect for and love and handling of the word of God made a lasting impression on us. I was particularly thankful of opportunities to talk with him one on one while attending bible college at ALCC. I always found him willing to listen and engage thoughtfully. We thank God for his impact in our lives.

August 15, 2019

Dick Benjamin led my entire family in the sinners prayer and later baptized us in water and led us in prayer to receive the holy spirit. I will forever be grateful for everything he imparted to our family through the word of God. Thank you Jesus, salvation came to my family through this incredible man of God. He later commissioned our family to help the work at Peters Creek Chapel where my father was ordained an elder and later a prophet. Many fond memories of Dick singing and building up the body of Christ. I pray comfort to the family as they await their reunion. Cindy Davis Rausa

My thoughts and prayers go out to Rick, Susan and his family. Your dad was a great influence on my life growing up at Abbott Loop Chapel as a young girl. His preaching of the Gospel was made easy for me to understand and brought me to know Jesus as my Savior. And for that I am forever thankful. He has touched so many lives thru the years. We have the hope that we will see him and all our loved ones who have gone before us. Rest In Peace Dick Benjamin.

As a fairly new Christian back in the 90's I first heard Pastor Dick B. preach about his background. He said he was a big baby - about 11 pounds, I think, and he stopped to have a steak as he walked home with his mother. I'd never heard anyone speak like that from the pulpit and I listened intently to his words. He reached me that day and I'm so glad he did. Years later my friends, Barb Peterson and Cheryl Rapp brought Dick & Carol a meal and it turned into a 4-hour celebration. What started as us helping them, turned into them blessing us with songs, stories & much laughter & love. Well done, good & faithful servant. He is now reunited with Carol & the Lord. Halleluia!

Pastor Dick Benjamin lead me to the Lord in his office February 1971 and from then on became my Pastor, friend, big brother, mentor and I then realized that I had become a part of something more powerful than the Navy that I had served in a few years earlier. While on staff at Abbott Loop I got to see the man and the anointed man of God that I looked up to and could not get enough of his teaching and preaching. He touched many lives and those touched many and on and on. Will miss seeing him for the summers I was able to go up and visit.

Psalms 144:4 "Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow." The impact of the Spirit of God operating through Dick's life has caused the passing of his shadow to leave a permanent impression in the lives of so many of us over the years. Dick was and is and forever will be realized as my father in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ. He instructed, conjoled, corrected and loved my wife and I in Christ Jesus to such an extent that our lives have been inexplicably nurtured and thereby increased to a point of greater value to the kingdom of our Lord and King, Jesus Christ. Some day soon we will again see Dick and Carol and hug their necks and say thank you...thank you so much. John and Coletta Ricketts

Dick B. was like a second dad to me. When I first met him at ALCC, I was a bit intimidated by him...he carried a lot of responsibility and authority. Then, I was going through a very difficult time in my life and he actually came out of a service to talk with me and pray with me! I will always remember his booming voice as he married my husband and I, 55 years ago this August in the "hut". We didn't attend his church any of our married years, but we ran into Dick and Carol often, as they ministered not only to their church but to those outside of Abbott Lopp Community. Always a smile a joke and a Praise The Lord on his lips. We send out love to his family and know we will see Dick again.

An 'Apostle' in deed! I learned more about how to be a man of God, 5fold ministry and church structure from this man than any alive... Karen and I went to see him while in Alaska in May 2019. First thing he said was; WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR? HERE TODAY-GONE TOMORROW! He always had a great sense of humor! I told him it was my prayer to see him alive - he humorously said; great - you can stop praying now... When we were ready to leave he said; we need to do something spiritual - let's pray....Enjoy your reward Sir! You have labored more abundantly than they all!!! Respectfully, Bernard

I am so thankful that Dick B was in our lives. I grew up at Abbott Loop and my family were missionaries to Indonesia sent and supported by Abbott Loop. I will never forget when he came to visit us in Indonesia. He was a great man of God, but also approachable. In recent years, Dick prayed for my husband and I as we serve as missionaries in Central and Eastern Europe and was also one of our supporters. It meant so much to know that he valued us enough to support us! Like it says in the article, we remember his singing and his laughter, as well as his integrity and leadership. He will be greatly missed, but oh, the joy in his new home!
