Growing up in Dorris , when I was a young teenager probably around 1973 or so , Dick and Judy owned and operated the Dorris Food Center. I remember Dick was always in the meat department with an apron cutting up meat while Judy was either stocking shelves or running the cash register upfront. One of my fond memories of the store and the Brimmer´s was they had purchased an "Amana Radarange" microwave , ( probably the first microwave in Dorris ) !! I can remember being excited at lunchtime to walk down to the store from school and microwave up a frozen burrito or some other frozen food In the radar range.!!

I was an admirer of Mr. Brimmer as a teenager. His prowess on the mound for the Klamath Falls Falcons set him apart from the crowd. I sat in the stands many times and followed the games on KAGO radio with Bill Gerrard.
Later I was fortunate enough to call him my friend and spend many hours in the duck blind, on the lake, hunting deer, at the cabin and on road trips to see our friend Dick Smith. The stories that emerged from those days are indelibly etched into my mind.
Dick was the type of guy that was quick witted and quicker to laugh. Hours in the company of Dick Brimmer, Tommy Hamilton, Dick Smith, Lefty Thurston, Deryl Hess and others are truly what legends are made of.
After all those years, the one single thing I remember best is a Tommy Hamilton saying. When building something, Brimmer proof it. That referred to the fact Dick was so damn strong. Tommy always said he could tear apart a crowbar with a screwdriver.
He now joins the other "Mountain Men" in the afterlife. I am sure there has not been a dull moment there since he joined them.
Rest in Peace my Friend. I will think and speak of you often so in truth you are never far away.

My name is John Barrett, I live in Phoenix Arizona but grew up in Sacramento, and remember Dick very fondly from my childhood. From about 1980 to 1990, I spent many spring and summer vacations up at my Papa (Dick Smith)´s ranch and cabin the mountains, and Dick was a fixture there along with Tommy, Lefty, Mark, and the rest of the fellas.
I remember Dick as a towering, strong, mountain of a man, always with a smile on his face and more often that not a cold beer can in his hand. I was only 6, 8, 10, 12 years old, but I remember sitting there in awe as Dick and the boys regaled with tall tales, anecdotes, and jokes (90% of which could never be printed here. Ha!)
Dick was very intelligent, had an amazing sense of humor, and it seemed like he was stronger and tougher than just about anyone else there, but also with a gentle, kind spirit.
If a fella can be remembered after his time has passed as a "man´s man", a hard worker, and a kind soul to everyone, then I´d say that fella lived a pretty damned good life.
Rest easy, Dick.
