Safety Harbor - Dr. Richard L Brutus passed away peacefully at his home in Safety Harbor, FL on July 24, 2025, with his wife Barbara by his side. Born in 1930 in Pine Village, IN, baptized at the Pine Village Methodist church as a young boy. He attended Michigan State University from 1948-1955, graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After a short employment with the Indiana Livestock Sanitary Board, he established a veterinary practice in Indianapolis. Subsequently he moved to Clearwater, FL where he practiced for many years until retirement. He was involved with veterinary associations and served one term as president of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association. He was a member of the Lions club in Indiana, Sertoma club, Clearwater, FL, and the Masonic lodge in Pine Village, IN. He and his wife, Barbara were avid tennis players and active in the sport for many years. He was involved in the family farm in Pine Village, IN until his death.

Preceded in death by his parents, Arba and Addie Brutus of Pine Village, three brothers; Glen J., Leroy, and Paul and by his first wife Joan Schuyler Brutus.

Survived by Barbara, his loving wife of 42 years, his four children; Lindsey (Sunny), Larry, Rodger (Kelly) all of Florida, and Laura Dee Chapman (Joey) of Lilburn, Georgia, three stepdaughters; Tracie Wiechmann (Phil), Christal Deaton (Jim) and Andrea Melton (Greg), all of Florida. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at the Brutus Family farm in Pine Village, Indiana.
