Richard Butzen, 93, passed away on February 7, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois.

Born on March 17, 1931, in Chicago, Richard lived a life marked by dedication, perseverance, and kindness. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 as an instructor of jet engine mechanics, contributing his expertise to the training of future servicemen. He met and married the love of his life Dorothy Spindler in 1954. They were married until her death in 2023. Following his military service, Richard embarked on a long and successful career. He worked for many years as a foreman at a printing plant before transitioning into real estate, where he found great success.

Beyond his professional achievements, Richard had a deep love for basketball. He played the game for years and extended his passion by coaching and occasionally refereeing. His enthusiasm for the sport reflected his commitment to teamwork and mentorship.

Richard was known for his kindness and thoughtfulness, always seeking ways to help others. A devoted husband, father and grandfather he built strong relationships that endured throughout his lifetime. These friendships spanned decades, a testament to the warmth and loyalty he shared with those around him. Even in the face of serious health challenges, Richard's indomitable spirit kept him moving forward far longer than anyone could have imagined. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed by so many.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
