Richard W Carlson

Richard (Dick) William Carlson passed away at the age of 85 on June 29, 2023. Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years Charlene Carlson, his sister Joyce Ruppert, his 3 daughters: Joanne (Matthew) Scott, Sharon (Kevin) Raugutt, and Dianne (Andy) Parent, his 3 sons: Jon, Don, and Steve Carlson, his grandchildren: Spencer, Sammi, Jordan, Hailey, and Ryan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard is proceeded in death by his Parents: Ruth and Axel Carlson, and his brother Roger Carlson.

Richard was born on September 7, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN and was the oldest of three children. Many of his extended family lived nearby. Richard graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1955. He then went on to earn a Phd in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1966. In 1964, Richard married Charlene Barrett. A year later their first daughter was born, and when she was six months old, the family moved to Seattle. There were five more children that came over the next 15 years. Richard had a long and happy career with Boeing as a Lead Electrical Engineer until 1995 when the Golden Handshake took place and he retired. He taught Math and Science at community colleges part time over the next few years.

Richard was a life-long learner and especially loved history, fifties music, sports and science, and did much research on them all. He supported his family's interests and took a leadership role in Indian Guides, Boy Scouts, and Gregory Seahurst Swim Club as Treasurer. During the last fifteen years, he belonged to the Jet Steppers Square Dance Club, the Sons of Norway, the Volks Walk Club and volunteered as a tutor at the Burien Library.

Richard Carlson was a wonderful man and a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed. His family is incredibly thankful for the impact that he made on the lives of those around him. Richard's memorial service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church on August 4, 2023 at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Wisconsin at a later date.
