Born July 15, 1952, in Chelsea, Mass., he was the son of Robert and Isabell (Nowak) Claypool.
While living in the Traverse City area, Rich owned and operated Rich's Lunch Wagon, serving lunches and snacks to factories, offices and construction sites. Most recently he worked as a chef at Fort McDowell Casino in Apache Junction.
His interest was riding his Trike and his membership with the Brothers of the Third Wheel.
He was very fond of his albino German shepherd dogs, Lady and Tramp.
Rich's greatest joy in life was his family. He was always willing to help them in any way; his love was unconditional.
He is survived by his mother, Isabelle Claypool; daughters, Johnnie (Gary) Winters, Melissa (Michael) Walden, Elizabeth Claypool and Stephanie Claypool; three grandchildren, Austin Claypool, Felicity Martines and Isabella Walden; siblings, Donald (June) Claypool, Dianna Allen, Robert J. Claypool and Michael (Betty) Claypool; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rich was preceded in death by his father and his wife, Margaret.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with Pastor Clifford Batterbee officiating.
In remembrance of Rich, memorials may be directed to Brothers of the Third Wheel, c/o Alex Ross, BTW Region #9, 5660 N. Abington Road, Tucson, AZ 85743; or to the American Cancer Society.
