Richard Patrick Conniff died August 25, 2011, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Dick was born in New York City on April 15, 1922, son of the late William J. Conniff and Ruth (Roberts) Conniff.

He came to Port Angeles with his parents and Great Aunt Nettie R. Veal in 1924. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1940.

During those years, he earned his Eagle Scout badge and was a bugler in the Port Angeles Boy Scout Drum and Bugle Corps.

He attended Whitman College, Walla Walla for two years before his appointment to West Point. Following graduation in 1945, he served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

While stationed on Okinawa, Japan, he married Lieutenant Ruth Garvey, an Army nurse. Dick retired as a lieutenant colonel.

He received a master's degree in engineering from Cornell University and used his degree in positions at Avco Missiles Systems and American Machine and Foundry (AMF).

He was an avid golfer and fisherman.

Surviving are daughters Pamela Conniff of Los Angeles, California, and Patricia Holland of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; sons Richard Jr. of White Hat, Maryland, William of Chicago, Illinois, and James of Severna Park, Maryland; sister Maureen Conniff of Port Angeles; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and daughter Jacqueline Fort, Vero Beach, Florida.
