Richard Conte Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 3, 2015.
Richard William Conte, 66, a resident of the East Mountain section of Scranton, died suddenly Saturday in the Geisinger Community Medical Center. He and his wife, the former Joanne Hofmeister, celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary in June.

Born in Scranton, son of the late William J. and Marie Meyers Conte, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and Johnson School of Technology. A member of Immaculate Conception Church, the German American Federation at Waldorf Park and the East Mountain Residents Association, he helped organize the fishing derby at Mountain Lake in the East Mountain section. Before retirement, he was a carpenter for 43 years and a member of the Carpenters and Joiners Local 645.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, taxidermist and a meticulous builder. He enjoyed sitting on the porch, cooking, gardening, trips to Bermuda and Florida and spending time with his dog, Jake.

Also surviving are three daughters, Renne Canova and husband, Leon III, Reading; Dorene Day, Virginia Beach, Va.; and Amy Swoyer, Archbald; a son, Richard William Conte Jr., Scranton; six grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriella, Deanna, Adrianna, Bradley and Randal; a brother, Robert Conte, Juneau, Alaska; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton. Interment will follow in the Italian American Cemetery, Scranton.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
