Dr. Richard W. Cribbs, DDS, 79, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014, at his home. He was born Jan. 7, 1935, in Jeannette, the son of the late George Meredith Cribbs and Ruth (Williams) Cribbs. Dr. Cribbs was a 1952 graduate of Jeannette High School and then attended Penn State University for two years. He enlisted in the Army and served in the Signal Corps at Fort Monmouth from 1954 to 1956. After his discharge from the service he received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Dental School in 1961. Dr. Cribbs practiced dentistry for 47 years from his office in Delmont until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and served as a clinical instructor at the Westmoreland County Community College in their Dental Hygiene School. He was a former longtime member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Delmont where he had served in many capacities, and a current member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Greensburg. He was also a proud 58-year member of the Free and Accepted Masons Jeanette Lodge 750, a 32nd degree Mason of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh and a Noble of the Syria Shrine, AAONMS. Dick was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Greensburg Country Club. He loved to travel with his family, especially to one of his favorite places, Hilton Head Island. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eleanor (Tressitt) Cribbs; three loving children, Jeffrey George Cribbs and his wife, Leanne, Karen Anne Cribbs and Kimberley Anne Elias and her husband, Bobby; five grandchildren, Erica Lynn, Sarah Elizabeth, Andrew Richard, Courtney Williams and Christopher Allen; his best buddy, Bella; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received Monday and Tuesday in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette. Masonic services by members of the F and AM Jeannette Lodge 750 was held Tuesday in the funeral home. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 140 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Greensburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Brian B. Chaffee, officiating. Entombment with full military honors followed in Twin Valley Memorial Park in Delmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children at http://www.shrinershospitalforchildren.org or to the Amyloidosis Center at Boston University at http://www.bu.edu/amyloid/.
