Richard d'Anjou
Richard d'Anjou Passed away peacefully on April 14, 2008 surrounded by his loving family, Mr. Richard (Dick) d'Anjou of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Husband of Lenore (Lee) d'Anjou, née O'Connor; loving father to Alice (Glenn), Keiren (Ty), Elizabeth (Russell), David (Sabrina), and Catherine (Sam). Beloved Grandpapa to Kellam (Jessica), Francis, Audrey, Taylor, Alex, Sean, Katie and the soon-to-be-born 'Pom Pom-Frisky.' Although born in the United States, Richard was a proud French-Canadian and grew up in Montreal. A graduate of Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf in Montreal and Fordham University, New York, Richard led a varied life. He began his career as a man of the theatre, co-directing the University of Chicago's University Theatre and later working on Broadway. His career in arts administration included both the 1965 Illinois Pavillion at the New York World's Fair and the USA Pavilion at Expo 67. And as a founding member of the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario, Richard made use of the considerable skills he had learned in the theatre and his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Richard was a devoted parishioner who gave over three decades' service to his parish, particularly in providing marriage prep courses to young couples. His funeral mass will be celebrated at the Newman Centre's St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 89 St. George St., Toronto, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2008. Visitation at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, 467 Sherbourne Street, on Wednesday, April 16, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Private interment at Cimetière Notre-Dame-des- Neiges, Montreal, Quebec.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to North York General Hospital (www.nygh.on.ca/foundation/ home.html), in heartfelt appreciation of the kindness and dedication of the staff who cared for Richard in the last few weeks of his life.
