Richard Eric Wolf Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 30, 2025.
Richard E. Wolf "Eric", 75, passed away after a lengthy illness on April 5, 2025. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Eric spent his last 25 years residing in Loveland, OH and then Hobe Sound, FL.

Eric is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Linda (McKeever) Wolf, his step-son Michael (Melissa) Lowry, grandson Max; his former wife Sharon Poling, and sons Dhyan and Christopher; his siblings Jacquie Pisauro, Mark (Margaret), Jeff (Carol), Matt (Kathy), Mary Plumley, Julie Nourayi, and Phil (Jean); along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Edward, and Catherine (Corcoran) Wolf, former wife Margaret Quiring, brother-in-law Ronald Plumley, nephew Nathan Pisauro, and nephew Donovan Nourayi.

Eric graduated from Bishop Watterson High School in 1967. He earned his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University and then his MBA from Northwestern University. Eric embodied learning throughout his lifetime. He was a voracious reader with a large personal library that reflected the subjects he found interesting. His desire to learn helped him excel not only in many different vocations as an adult, but also in a variety of ways in his personal life. One early example was his gaining aptitude as a carpenter that enabled him to assist in building his parent's cabin at Buckeye Lake, OH and then to design and build his own house in Logan, OH.

"Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."(Matthew 6:21) Eric loved God and found it important to be open to God's will for how he lived his life. He was very active at church, both at Good Shepherd in Loveland and at Saint Christopher in Hobe Sound. He served in his churches as a lector, sacristan, and altar server.  He and his wife Linda visited hospitals to distribute communion to patients. He used a variety of ways to teach from the Bible, whether with groups of friends at his home or church, with inmates in prison, or in academic classes, such as Mount St. Mary's Athenaeum of Ohio.

Eric held many positions of leadership in the Knights of Columbus on a local and district level. He was recognized for his service as Knight of the Year and was the Honoree of the Year for the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce. In one of the more memorable endeavors with Knights of Columbus, Eric participated in a mission trip to Mexico to distribute wheelchairs at a time when he was first afflicted by diabetes and pancreatic cancer.

Eric loved family and the traditions that were a part of family life. Whether attending the annual Corcoran Family Reunion to "catch up" with relatives or enjoying a game of Euchre or Scrabble after a meal with immediate family, Eric enjoyed making a connection with family members. The love for family extended to his desire to thoroughly research, and eventually record, the genealogy of people related to him and other family members.

During Eric's twenties, he made plans to go on a hitchhiking trip through Europe. He asked his mother Kay to join him on his travels. She eventually consented and it ended up having a large impact in both of their lives.

After many years working in the business world as salesman and sales manager, Eric partnered with Linda for two businesses: Active Canvas (web development) and Lectio Publishing. Through their publishing company, he authored two books: Psalms as Personal Prayer, An Intimate Translation; and Eternal Woman: A Poetic Journey of Discovery in Life and Love. The former required Eric to translate the entire Psalter from Hebrew text, while the latter is a collection of his mother Kay's poems for which Eric devoted much time to compiling and preparing her work for publication.

Eric's curiosity for learning was a foundation for his love of exploration while outdoors. He and his wife Linda went on many excursions for scuba diving and sailing. He also would find time to get exercise on a regular basis by bicycling thousands of miles a year. A favorite bicycling event done with other family members was the Great Ohio Bike Adventure (GOBA). This provided a venue to explore new areas of Ohio while enjoying spending time with family members that rode GOBA. He also joined his family on many occasions to hike such as the Annual New Year's Day Hike at John Bryan State Park.

A Funeral Mass was held on Friday April 25th at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Hobe Sound, FL.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, May 31st 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church in Columbus, OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that you please consider a donation to: Saint Christopher Church, 12001 SE Federal Hwy, Hobe Sound, FL 33455 (by check) or to Catholic Charities, Diocese of West Palm Beach www.ccdpb.org/get-involved/donate.html.

Dear Linda and Wolf family, Reading of the hike through Europe with mother and son was very moving. It is a testament to Eric's relationship with his mother and his courage to strike out to parts unknown. I have always admired the drive for growth among the Wolf family and the commitment to making a difference in this world. While Eric is a loss to family and friends, his life sends positive, hopeful ripples into the future. Godspeed, Eric as you encounter your beloved Lord.
