Foley, Dr. Richard Phillip 64, retired Professor in the Department of Medical Education, College of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago; respected educator and researcher; passed away peacefully at home October 8, 2006. Richard earned a B.A. in History from Roosevelt University in Chicago in 1965, a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in Teacher Education in 1975, and was a former history teacher at Hubbard High School in Chicago. He was an adoring White Sox and Chicago Bears fan, a lover of fine food and drink, and a gourmet cook. Among Richard's other attributes were his quick wit, gift for storytelling, fabulous sense of humor, and generous heart, for which he was greatly loved. He was the dear son of Lucille K. Foley of Oak Brook, IL and the late Joseph M. Foley; the cherished brother of Karen (John) Reynolds of Philadelphia, Gail (Steve) Adams of St. Charles, and Dawn Foley of Lisle; the loving uncle of Heather, Aaron, Lee, and Brent; and the faithful companion of Smokey the cat. Richard leaves behind many treasured friends, including Jay Stover, Lottie Da, and John Smith. The family especially wishes to thank Greg Okniwski for his compassion and dedication as Richard's caregiver. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Richard Phillip Foley fund, Fifth Third Bank, 700 S. Randall Rd., St. Charles, IL, 60174.

I just had a memory of him, and was sad to find his obituary. He was my history teacher around 1966 at Hubbard High School in Chicago. What a delight his classes were, because of his humor, creativity, and focus! I was also a member of the Debate Club that he founded in those years. I remember him fondly as one of my greatest teachers in my formative years who stimulated critical thinking and individual expression in the students, important qualities that helped shape my life.

When did he receive tenure? Did he not receive tenure until 2015 posthumously?
