Richard Hamblen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 2, 2025.
Richard Hamblen, 77, passed away on November 30, 2024, in Palmer, AK.

Born on June 29, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts, Richard grew up in Norwell, MA, where he attended school. He later served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Army Military Police during the Vietnam War.

Richard had a deep passion for motorcycles and the open road. As a former member of Rolling Thunder New Hampshire, Chapter 1, he found camaraderie among fellow riders and embraced the freedom of long-distance travel. His journeys took him across the United States, where he met many friends along the way. Among his favorite rides were the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and the exhilarating Tail of the Dragon. At the time of his passing, Richard was an active member of the American Legion Riders Post 15 in Palmer, Alaska.

In 2008, Richard met his life partner, Leslie Matura. Together, they embarked on a new adventure-retirement on the road. Purchasing an RV, they traveled across the country, embracing a life filled with exploration and shared experiences.

Richard is survived by his children: Jason Hamblen of Jaffrey, NH; David "Brian" Peterson of Aransas Pass, TX; Victoria McElroy of Aransas Pass, TX; and Deanna Pea of Aransas Pass, TX, and siblings Ruth Beauregard (Charles) of Del Ray Beach, FL; Joan Power of Marshfield, MA; Mary Bizzozero (Ronald) of Norwell, MA; and David Hamblen (Lisa) of Plympton, MA.

Richard's adventurous spirit and love for the road will be fondly remembered by those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who shared in his journey. "Ride Your Own Ride!"

A memorial service will be held April 5, 2025, at 2pm at the American Legion Post 15, 1550 Mystic Cir., Palmer, AK.

I was very sorry to hear about the passing of Richard. I remember him from the sleep overs his sister had that I attended! He also knew my sister Linda quite well!
I´m very sorry for your loss and I pray God will be with your family at this very difficult time!

So glad Richard and I reconnected as friends several years ago...we graduated Norwell High and many many years passed before we met again. He was a good friend and I'm happy we played a few rounds of golf and enjoyed sharing memories of high school. Leslie, we talked on the phone a few times and I'm sorry we never met...but I know you and Richard were soulmates...he spoke so warmly of you. Many hugs and prayers.

I have great memories of Richard as he and Leslie traveled here, he was always telling interesting stories and just fun to hang out with! He´ll always be missed! I hope there is a motorcycle for him up in heaven to go riding with his buddy Jon
