Richard E. "Dick" Helfrich Sr. age 82 of Dixon died on Sunday Feb. 26, 2023 at Franklin Grove Living and Rehab. He was born on Oct. 28, 1940 in Dixon, IL the son of Ray and Dorothy (Schulte) Helfrich. Dick worked at Daubert Coated Products for 40 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Dick coached his sons in Al Morrison baseball and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and pen making. Dick married Mary Varga on Jan. 21, 1967 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marvin Earl Helfrich, Ray Merle Helfrich, and foster brother Les Hamill. Dick is survived by his wife Mary, children Richard (Tammy) Helfrich Jr. of Montgomery, IL, Matthew (Missy) Helfrich of Dixon, Anthony (Andrea) Helfrich of Dixon, 5 grandsons Jonah Helfrich, Kaden Helfrich, Garrett Helfrich, Gage Helfrich, and Anthony Helfrich. He is also survived by his sisters Wanda Apple of Sterling, Donna Hall of Bettendorf, IA, Margery (John) Simmons of East Peoria, IL and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday March 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. John Evans officiating. Burial of Cremains will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Visitation will be on Tuesday March 7, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church. A memorial has been established to Veteran's Memorial Park in Dixon.
