Richard Hertzog, Sr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 1, 2025.
Richard C. Hertzog Sr., 82, of Salisbury Township, passed away at St. Luke's Fountain Hill Hospital peacefully with his family by his side on May 27, 2025.

Born in Ruchsville, PA, on November 16, 1942, Richard was a devoted son, husband, and father. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Linda Lou Hertzog; his sister, Linda Lukow; and his children, Richard C. Hertzog Jr. of Catasauqua and Susan Hertzog of Allentown.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Lillian (Butz) Hertzog; his siblings, Roland Hertzog, Phillip Hertzog, Eileen Hertzog, and Janice Englert; and two of his children, Robert Hertzog and Lisa Hertzog.

Richard was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Linda, with whom Richard shared nearly 57 wonderful years of marriage. He was a loving and dedicated father and very proud of his children, Richard Jr. and Susan. Richard had a grateful heart for their unconditional love in his lifetime.

Richard attended the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and graduated in 1962, where Richard learned to be an upstanding member of society and became a skilled tradesman as a printer technician. Richard spent his career as a printer technician, first with Metro Printing and later with Rob-Win Press.

Richard was a fighter-resilient and strong. He loved his family deeply and did everything in his power to ensure their happiness. He also held a special bond with his dog Riley, who was always by his side, ready to cuddle with her "Pop Pop." Finding joy in the simple things: he would spend time at the casino or local coffee shop slot machine, enjoyed meals with Linda Lou at the diner, or playing bingo on Wednesday nights. As a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, Richard never missed a game and followed his teams religiously. He enjoyed being stylish with his cabbie hat and leather coat, but you could sense his humor when you saw him wearing his colorful, bright, and comically "fun" socks. Richard also had a surprising love for Candy Crush, reaching an impressive level 11,762.

Richard shared many close friendships throughout the years, and wanted them to know he cherished them dearly.

Richard's quick wit, strong will, and gentle heart will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. As a dedicated Christian, Richard cherished attending church whenever possible and often reflected on the messages of Christ. Come reflect and celebrate his life as he returns home to his Savior.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 340 E Hamilton Street, Allentown, PA on Saturday, June 7th, 2025. Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m.

In honor of Richard's love for Philly sports, guests are encouraged to dress casually-Eagles and Phillies attire especially welcome, although dress attire is perfectly fine too.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, a donation in the name of Richard C. Hertzog, Class of 1962, can be made to the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf: https://psd.org/donate/ by placing his name and class year in the comments section.
