Richard Hines Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 24, 2024.
Richard Morris Hines, age 65, passed away on March 21, 2024, in Bay Minette, Alabama. He was born on May 8, 1958, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

Richard was an operator at Chevron Refinery in Pascagoula, Mississippi, for 35 years. He was a graduate of Mobile County High School. Outside of work, Richard found joy in being outdoors, riding his motorcycle, flying planes, fishing, traveling, singing, and most of all, spending time with his beloved family and friends. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lori Ann Hines, his siblings James Sterling (Helen) Hines Jr., Nancy (Lonnie) Schuster, and Leslie (Orit) Hines, his children Ivy (John) Hines, Rachel (John) Hines, James (Hannah) Hines, and Seth Hines, and his grandchildren Julianna (Noah) Landry, Spencer James McDonald, Lillian Carey McDonald, Kylie Elaine Baker, Isabella Grace Hines, and Oliver James Hines.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Elizabeth Hines, and his father, James Sterling Hines Sr.

Richard's family and friends admired him for his ability to accomplish anything. He was a problem solver and was known for his generous heart, his ability to bring light into any situation, and his contagious sense of humor. Richard was a God-fearing man who served Union Baptist Church faithfully as a deacon for many years. Most importantly, he was the rock of his family, and a shining example of the faith on which his family was built.

Services will be held at Union Baptist Church in Grand Bay, Alabama, on Wednesday, March 27th. Visitation at 11:00 a.m. and service to follow at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Union Baptist Church, designated to Bright Beginnings Preschool. Richard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Richard (Richy as we call him) was a good and honest man. As my Shift Supervisor in EGTL Nigeria, he was always available to help even on personal challenges. He is that person that cares for others to the extent that he prepares food for everyone to eat, thus creating such a bond of love. His actions inspired trust and admiration in those around him. Richard's commitment to doing what was right and his jovial nature motivated me to discover some of my potentials as a man. He will be dearly missed. May his soul rest in peace and May God console the beautiful family he left behind.

I have fond memories of Richard and he will be greatly missed. He was a good friend. I have fond memories of his stories, the many conversations we had both lighthearted and the more serious ones and the many laughs and jokes during the years spent in Nigeria. Richard was a kind and genuine man. God bless Richard and rest in peace!

Lori Ann & Family,

My heart aches for you after this tragic loss. Even though I had not seen y'all personally in 50 years, I came to know about y'all through mutual friends' posts on FB. I pray that you all find peace in your loving memories of Richard and comfort in knowing that he's now working even more closely with Jesus in Heaven. Please accept my sincere condolences.

He was getting ready for a date with Lori Ann, and he would not let my brother and I get in his way, He was brushing his teeth and fixing his hair putting on deodorant and cologne, and he would not explain why he was getting all gussied up. It was after we left him alone to finish getting ready, that Aunt Betty explained that he was going on a date with that cute little girl from down the road.
