Richard T. Holmes

Richard T. Holmes, age 67, of Erie, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his residence. Born January 2, 1947, in Florence, S.C., he was the son of the late Richard and Margaret (Allison) Holmes.

Richard was a veteran who served our country during the Vietnam War. He earned a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Gannon University, and was the Energy Efficiency Manager for Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AECI) in Springfield, Mo., until his retirement in 2012. He was previously employed at SMMPA in Rochester, Minn. and Penelec in Erie and Indiana, Pa. He served as the Director of the Lighting Research Center at the University of Missouri (MEERC). Richard was an adjunct professor at Cardinal Stritch University in Rochester, Minn., and the University of Southern Indiana. He was a BOC instructor in Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, and Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Janet (Schneider) Holmes, whom he married in 1967; four children, Ethan Holmes, wife Becky, of Parma Heights, Ohio, Elisa Holmes, fiancé Jeremy Mifsud, of Erie, Aaron Holmes, wife Joni, of Fort Branch, Ind., and Anne Tellers, husband Brian, of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Abigail Holmes, Olivia Holmes, Matthew Mifsud, and Elizabeth Tellers; and a brother, James Holmes of Indiana, Pa.

Friends are invited to a Funeral Mass on Friday, April 25, 2014, at St. Patrick Church, 130 East 4th St., at 11 a.m., with Msgr. Henry Kriegel, celebrant. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St., Suite 244, Erie, PA 16501, or any other hospice. Arrangements are being handled by the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St., at Greengarden Boulevard.
