I only found out about the passing of Dr Hope
today. He was a great doctor,gentle, very knowledgeable and made you feel comfortable discussing your illness. He will be sadly missed,condolences to his family.

I was a patient of Dr Hope and he truly had the best bedside manner in making a patient feel comfortable and relaxed and completely trusting in him. I was due to see him again in 2017 only to discover he had passes, he will be truly missed.

I last saw Richard Hope in 2014, which was the 3rd time I had been in his care.. He said 'It's looking better, so come back in 5 years'.
I remember the first time I met him, his family photos were all across his desk, and we were chatting about Aspirin of all things. Meanwhile he doodled the chemical notation of Aspirin on a scrap of paper, and described to me how Aspirin effectively worked.
He possessed a brilliant mind, and made such an impression on me, that I am so saddened today to discover his passing.
He leaves a legacy I am sure, of so many patients who continue to live productive lives because of his work.

I only just learned of Dr Hopes passing today, when I visited my GP & Ricks name came up. I was gob smacked & have been unable to think of anything else since learning of this tragedy.
I saw Dr Hope on and off for 20 years and met him during my teens because he worked at the same medical rooms as my mum in Windsor for a time. This has really shocked me. A man who was so dedicated to helping others, passed away in his prime with so much to look forward to & so much to continue offering the medical world. My sincere condolences to his family. This is such a great loss to all.

We have only just found out about such a friendly caring specialist DR RICHARD HOPE. You helped us so much over many many years. Who could say that they are actually looking forward to having a colonoscopy. You always gave great advice as well as comfort knowing that you Dr R Hope were the best at what you did. My day was shattered today when i found out through my mum (who is also a patient of Dr Hope) had passed away. She only found out via a referral letter from the doctor taking over his patients. Such a sad day and I will never forget him. When I met him over 10 years ago I found Dr Rick to be a fantastic doctor that cared, asked about my family even though he was basically a total stranger to me, and he asked about me that no doctor asked before. RIP Dr Rick.

I am beyond saddened today, having just read of Rick's passing. My condolences to Kathy and the Hope family.
I am not surprised that he was able to touch the lives of so many people, in such truely important, and truely meaningful ways. Having grown up with Rick from age10, until our early 20s, he was our footy team mate, captain of First XIII, scholar, School Dux, a gentleman - and just plain fun to be around with his Infectious laugh and quick of wit.
He will live on through those of us who knew him or met him, as no-one was unaffected by his humanity, humility and generosity.
The world needs more like Rick Hope.

I was shocked to learn of Dr. Hope's passing when I visited my GP tonight.
Rick having performed my 6 monthly ERCPs for several years now, I had the utmost confidence every time he greeted me before I was wheeled in to the Day Surgery theater at Westmead Hospital. A man who had great care and compassion for his patients. I will miss having you at my next appointment in September.

I have been lucky enough to have known Rich and his family for about 3 years. The Richard I knew was generous and down to earth with fairness and kindness foremost in his heart. I have shared many happy moments with Rich, Kathy and children but they were also there for me when I was going through tough times support I couldn't have done without.
I am still trying to accept that we have lost him and wish to extend my sincerest sympathy and empathy to you Kathy and the children. I will never forget our times together. Please be strong guys these hard times will eventually pass and then we will only remember the good ones together.

I had the pleasure and honour of working with Richard's late father Ross. I remember visiting Ross's house and meeting a young Richard . I have also been a patient of Richards and cannot speak highly enough of him on so many levels. He was so professional, personable and caring. Clearly he is well respected by his profession and he was so proud of his family. There is an old saying that ' that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree' and Richard is a wonderful reflection of his parents Ross and Belva and his entire family. As a GP colleague, I was greatly saddened and dismayed to hear of the passing of such an esteemed practitioner. Over many years, it was always a pleasure to place patients in his care as I knew they would be well looked after and patients always returned with great praise for him and the professional and caring way he carried out his work.

I had a consultation with Dr Hope a few weeks ago. It was my first and only contact with him at his Bella Vista practice. Despite this one and only contact, I felt completely shattered when I received news of his passing. I haven't got over the shock yet.

Rick has always been someone I have admired, respected, looked up to and loved. I always knew that if I spoke to him about anything, or needed advice or help, I'd get a 100% honest, unbiased and logical answer. The generosity that he showed to me when I was in a really tough time of my life will never be forgotten, and while I don't know if I said that to him directly, I hope he always knew how grateful I was to him for it. Rick was a dedicated and loving father, a wonderful husband to Kath, and for me he was a fantastic brother in law. I am still in shock to hear the sad news of Dr Hope passing! I was a patient of his about 15 years ago and since then, my dad, mum and brother have also been his patients! We were deeply saddened and shocked upon suddenly learning of the death of Dr. Rick Hope.
My wife Salina and I were treated by Dr Hope in the past and we both were always in awe of his generosity, kindness, and patience especially as we found these traits rare in the specialist medical field. To us he was the epitome of a great doctor - gentlemanly, kind, highly competent, very assuring and all the other virtues that I'm at a loss for the right adjectives to describe him by. It's usually quite hard for us to allow ourselves to be treated by any gastroenterologist whom we do not know and trust simply because we feel our lives are on the line. With Dr Hope, we had complete faith and trust in him.
You will be greatly missed Dr Rick Hope and I know you are in Heaven now.
We are both very grateful to you for carefully looking after us as patients.

I was devastated to receive a letter today informing me of the passing of Dr Hope. I saw him in his new rooms at Bella Vista on the 6th of april this year.i have been a patient of Dr Hopes for many years after being referred to him after a traumatic endoscopy by another gastroenterologist. I'm really struggling with the letter I've just received informing of the tragic passing of Rick. I have been under his care since the early 90's and last saw him on the 20th of April where he gave me his ever thoughtful advice about some challenges I am currently facing.
A very kind and gentle person, a gifted doctor, and my go to man - it was a real privilege to have met him.

We had the honour and were blessed to meet Dr hope over 15 years ago when he diagnosed my wife with celiac disease. He was an absolute gentleman, a very caring doctor one of the best we have met. I just heard the very sad news of the passing of Dr Hope. My deepest sympathy to his family and also his staff. It was twelve months ago that Dr Richard Lin passed away for whom I worked.

Just heard today from my GP of Rick's passing. Shocked and stunned and sad to the core. Little did she know that my current gastroenterologist was known to me from a boy when we worked together with all the Hope boys at Woolies in Wenty. I only ascertained yesterday, Sunday, 29 May that Dr Richard Hope, my one and only gastroenterologist, had died. I am devastated to hear this tragic news. He was such an excellent doctor. Some years ago my brother had to wait too long for his turn to have a colonoscopy. I asked his doctor to refer him to Dr Hope who undertook the procedure within days. This timely procedure saved my brother's life. The most important thing I will always remember is the thorough nature with which Richard Hope carried out his work. I will miss him always. My heartfelt condolences go to his family.

So sad to hear of Dr. Hope's passing - I have only been his patient for the last 6 months but saw him several times in that period and saw him about a month ago - he was always so caring, kind and considerate. My deepest condolences to his family at this sad time!

I have seen Dr hope 3 times and a allways knew he was an excellent person & Dr. I went to see him complaining about my nauseas & he assure me that it was only due to my anxiety, that's when i knew he was kind & caring. I'm devastating to hear that he is not with us anymore. God bless his familly i know at the moment is hard to belive but time will make it easy to kope with his lost

Me and my wife are so sad to hear about demise of Dr. Hope. He was such a wonderful person and doctor. He treated my wife last year with so much care and love. It's very hard to replace him.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

it is devastating to hear the news that our beloved doctor Richard Hope is no more.no more tears in my eyes. he had been very kind to call me to give reassurance that i don't suffer from either cancer or coeliac. when i would see that great soul again. i pray for his soul to rest in peace

It was with shock and sadness that I just learned of Dr Hope's passing. Such a lovely, kind and caring person. I owe my life to him and will be forever grateful that I was referred to him. Rest in peace.
