Richard Iudice Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 26, 2024.
Naval Commander Richard Joseph Iudice, 78, of South Brunswick, New Jersey, passed away on Oct 16, 2024. Born on March 25, 1946, in San Francisco, California, he was a devout Catholic, and husband to Carol Elizabeth Ash-Iudice and a loving father to Mark Eric Iudice. He is preceded in death by his father Carmello Joseph Iudice, and mother Margaret Nora Tomei. He is survived by his wife Carol and son Mark, his two sister's Barbara Bagileo-Iudice, Judy Garrison and her children Valerie and Michael, his cousins Debbie Brusatori, Lynn and her husband Micheal Moriarty and children Michael and Joseph, brother in law Walter Ash, sister-in-law Joanna Leaman and her husband Craig, their children Jennifer Diehl and husband Jason, and Kevin Leaman and wife Samantha, and a multitude of other relatives and dear friends. He was also known as "Uncle Rich" to many younger family and friends.

Richard was hard-working, dedicated and lived his life with honor and integrity. He left a lasting impact on everyone he knew. After completing college at San Diego State University and ROTC, Rich attended Naval Officers School and earned the gold wings of a Navy pilot. For over 20 years he proudly served his country both on active duty and as a Navy reservist. His piloting skills led to a civilian position as a senior captain flying the founder and CEO of Asplundh Corporation for nearly 14 years. Rich then joined Dassault Aviation Falcon Jet manufacturer as a senior pilot demonstrating their complete line of aircraft to customers worldwide. He quickly moved through the ranks to assistant chief pilot, then to his final position of Director of Flight Operations, retiring after 23 years with Dassault. During his career he received many awards and recognitions including the world speed record for flying a Mystere-Falcon 900EX from Sao Paulo Brazil to Teterboro NJ (USA) in 1998.

Rich was loved by all of his family, friends and colleagues for his kindness, fairness, humor, can-do attitude, and his operating to the highest level of safety in aviation and his life. Richs' hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He was a devote Catholic and attended mass weekly. He was a skilled skier and enjoyed skiing with his family. As a father and man, he reinforced the value to protect those with lesser strength; he always placed himself behind us to ensure the safety of his family in front. He loved driving his Corvette with his son Mark, as well as opportunities to fly and shoot guns with him. He cherished making holidays special for Mark including setting up elaborate Halloween displays and Christmas tree trains. He loved his profession and often said "Dassault Falcon Jet pays me for 10% of my work the rest I would do for free." When he would leave for trips he would proclaim to his young son "you are now the man of the house." His colleagues will recall he carried "Scooter" on Falcon jets around the world sending postcards back to Mark from Scooter. He reminded us often that life will bring struggles. That you cannot wait to proceed until you think you are ready, or you will never get ahead. That a life well done means accepting responsibility and pushing into challenges. He often said to Mark "If a frog had wings it wouldn't bump it's butt when it jumped".

One of his greatest strengths was his unwavering love for his family, his many friends, colleagues, and duty to country. We will miss him dearly and find comfort in knowing that Richard's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

I am embarrassed that I just became aware of Rich´s passing. I should have been more engaged with a man that supported me when I was in great need. This was who he was, his generosity and compassion was unrivalled. I think of Rich and Carol often. Life´s many paths often lead friends in different directions but I always thought I would cross paths with them again. My blessings to Carol and Mark, may God´s love fill your void. RIP Rich, I will leave this earth a better person because of you. You were a very special person and I was blessed to know you.

I'm so grateful to Rich, who generously shared his time and advice when I was applying to Navy OCS back in 1998. His guidance proved invaluable, and just two years later, I proudly earned my wings of gold as well. Throughout my flying career, I often reflected on his wisdom. I'll always appreciate the positive impact he had on my journey.

I was incredibly fortunate to have Rich be part of my life when I needed a father figure and a mentor. His sense of optimism and generosity of spirit, his integrity and commitment to family and friends, his great sense of humor, his love of country and service to others, and even his unfortunate choice in football teams to root for - all taught me invaluable lessons. I hope he knew how much I looked up to him, and how important of a role he played in me becoming who I am today.

I had the wonderful opportunity to be part of this beautiful family working as a nanny with them for over 13 years. Rich always took care of his family and showed his love for them and all his friends. He would always tell me to never forget that I was part of their family and I truly felt that. We all shared so many memories together that will forever remain in my heart! I love you rich and will miss you greatly!

Rich was a dear friend and the best pilot I ever flew with! !
He would often call my.office and ask if I might be interested in flying to France to pick up a new plane to deliver it to the states, unfortunately, as a physician, I didn´t have the luxury take that trip with him.
He will always be in my memory.

Really enjoyed flying with Rich and helping him to manage the Dassault Falcon Jet flight department. He was a gentleman who was loved by all his co-workers. We all enjoyed Rich´s sense of humor, his kindness and his positive attitude. He was an outstanding Naval Aviator.

Rich was my dear brother. We were always very close and did a lot together even as small kids. Like when I would hold his hand as we walked the block and half to the little country store for an ice cream! He was so pleased when I got my private pilot's license and I took him up for a little flight. I will always remember the smile on his face. Their were so many other special times that I will always treasure! I want to thank each of you who were important in Rich's beautiful and very interesting life before Alzheimers took that wonderful brother and man from us!!

I remember when Rich took me up in a little plane. I was already very nervous, but when he decided to roll the plane, I flipped out! Almost lost my cookies. Rich got a good laugh out of my distress

I will always remember Rich´s kindness when he met me at the railway station. The other special time was seeing all the varieties of ice cream he shared t the dinner table! Also his dedication to Church and passing around the basket for the collection. I loved the stories he told me about his travels when as a pilot he flew Falcon Jets. May Rich be remembered dearly and be welcomed into the peace and love of eternal life.
