Richard Jakubek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 31, 2012.
Richard Jakubek

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Richard Jakubek, 69, passed away Sunday, October 28th, with his wife by his side, following a courageous battle against leukemia.

Richard was born in Los Angeles, CA on November 8, 1942. He graduated from Arlington HS in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1960. After graduation, Richard and his brother started their own construction business. Upon his dad's retirement, Richard took over the family's auto parts store. When he moved his family to Myrtle Beach in 1989, he worked to get his SC home builder's license and has served Myrtle Beach and the surrounding communities until his diagnosis in January 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of 23 years; his children Cheyenne, Richie (Claudia) Jakubek and Sandy (Rit) Schroder; a brother Chuck (Mary) Jakubek and sister Virginia (Wayne) Cooper); 6 grandchildren Harmony, Danny, Ryan, Jordan, Emilio and Aldo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard loved working with his hands creating and imagining beautiful things. He also enjoyed collecting and working with N-Scale model trains. Richard loved his family with all of his heart. He was the most generous and kind man to everyone he knew, touching the lives of many.

Family and friends are invited to his celebration of life ceremony at Socastee United Methodist Church, 5575 Dick Pond Road, Myrtle Beach on Saturday, November 3rd at 3:00 pm. A gathering to reminisce will follow in the Fellowship Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Jakubek Fund at Socastee United Methodist Church.

Rich was a good friend in high school, but I never saw him again after graduation. He was a bright guy, and we loved old cars. The world is a better place because of people like him. My concolences.

So sorry to hear of Richard's passing. He and I rode the same school bus for some years and he was in several of my classes. He was a real gentleman.
