Richard Jorgensen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 12, 2025.
Richard Jorgensen, 80, passed away on March 28, 2025, in Vernon, Connecticut. Born on June 9, 1944, in Hartford, Connecticut, Richard lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, generosity, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.

A proud graduate of Howell Cheney Technical School, Richard trained as an electrician-a skill that served him well throughout his life. His technical acumen was matched by a natural curiosity and love for mechanics. Whether he was working on engines or fine-tuning a project around the house, Richard approached each task with dedication and precision.

Richard served honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in both Africa and Germany. His time in the military reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment to serving others-qualities that remained central to who he was throughout his life.

Those who knew Richard remember him as a generous and easygoing man who would help anyone with anything. He had a kind heart and an open hand, always ready to lend support or share a laugh. His presence brought comfort and joy to those around him.

Richard found great pleasure in his hobbies. He loved boating and fishing-activities that allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy peaceful moments on the water. A skilled mechanic, he also had a passion for racing cars at Riverside Park. Music played an important role in his life; he enjoyed listening to it as much as playing guitar himself. One of his favorite pastimes was feeding animals in their natural habitat, reflecting his gentle spirit and respect for all living things. As a child, he cherished trips to Nantucket-memories that stayed close to his heart throughout the years.

Richard's family meant everything to him. He is survived by his daughter Debbie Hetzer and her husband Marc Hetzer; his beloved grandson Kyle Hetzer; Debbie's mother Lillian, brothers Robert Jorgensen and Kenneth Jorgensen; sister-in-law Diane Jorgensen; brother-in-law John Foley; nieces Kristina (Lars) Owren and Nancy (Kevin) Knowl; nephew Anthony (Mary) Thompson; and great-nieces and nephews Aiden, Larsen, Abigail, Kinley, and Abigail.

He was predeceased by his parents Dora (Kajda) Jorgensen and Wenzell Jorgensen; brother Donald Jorgensen; sister Doreen Foley; sister-in-law Doreen Jorgensen; and other cherished family members whose memories live on through those who loved them.

Richard will be remembered not only for what he did but for how he made people feel-welcomed, supported, and loved. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
