With loved ones by his side, Dad peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 on his 94th birthday after a few days in hospital. He was predeceased by his cherished wife of 60 years, Kathleen. Richard will be lovingly remembered by his children Larry (Carol), Greg (Jackie), Susan (David) and Ken (Marcia); eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Dad looked forward to another summer at the cabin at Loon Lake and was able to spend a few days there supervising the building of a new deck before becoming ill. He was fortunate to have been able to live in his own home in Regina until the end. Dad enjoyed playing cribbage and Scrabble with family and friends (where he more than held his own in the win/loss department), was an avid reader, an excellent cook and still enjoyed a good happy hour. Throughout the years he amazed us all with his inventiveness, coming up with solutions to problems that were incredibly creative, leaving us wondering what would be next. On Dad's last day, clearly understanding what lay ahead, he quoted some of his favourite poetry: "Sunset and evening star and one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar when I put out to sea." Bon voyage, Dad. You will be missed a great deal but happy memories will remain forever. The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Meadow Lake Regional Hospital, as well as many wonderful friends who were so good to Dad, especially in the last years while he was on his own. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
