Richard Kenning Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 11, 2024.
Richard Hope Kenning II, aged 62, of Covington, LA, passed away on September 6, 2024. Born on February 22, 1962, Rickey, as he was known by so many, dedicated his life to his career in sales, and was an unwavering supporter of the New Orleans Saints.

Rickey attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic School followed by Abramson High School. He furthered his education at the University of New Orleans, which laid the groundwork for his successful career in sales. Known for his robust work ethic, Rickey became an award-winning expert in his industry and was a role model to many in the field. While his career leaves little in physical remnant, his dedication to a strong work ethic and expertise are qualities his sons will carry indefinitely.

A member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and a frequent visitor to various Catholic churches in the Greater New Orleans area, Rickey's faith was a cornerstone of his life.

Rickey's love for sports was profound. He was a life-long fan of the New Orleans Saints and the Pelicans; it could be said that watching the games was his "third job." When not tuned into sports either at the Dome or on TV, Rickey enjoyed listening to sports radio and had a few favorite Broadway musicals that he played on repeat.

He is survived by his wife, Allison Comardelle Kenning; sons, Jordan (Jordan Bess) and Richie (Elise); grandchild, Atticus Grey Kenning; and in-laws, Charles Comardelle and Winnie Plaisance Comardelle. Rickey was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Hope Kenning I and Jeanette Viola Kenning.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Friday, September 20th, 2024, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 4499 Sharp Rd., Mandeville, LA 70448. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) in Rickey's memory. His legacy of generosity and dedication to his community will continue to live on through these contributions.

I just found this out and am truly heartbroken. I was Ricky´s supervisor with klingspor for a while and he and I struck a friendship up. Ricky was a great man with a big heart. He would work circles around most of the other reps. Who were usually half his age. We stayed in contact even after I left. I will miss him calling to check in.

Ricky was not only a wonderful cousin, but a friend. My first memory was Christmas night at grandma Kenning's house. We would flood the street playing tag, at night! And having "highballs", which were soft drinks, but we couldn't have been happier! I love Ricky's family and I mourn their loss because I feel it as well. I'm having trouble adjusting to life knowing that he's not here, but heaven is having a party!!!!!!!!! Because they just got a new friend

It´s hard to find the words to describe just how deeply sad it is to learn of this news about my good friend and brother in Christ, Rickey. Allison and family~ you are in my thoughts, my heart, and my prayers. Rickey loved his family deeply and spoke of each member often. Rickey especially loved Jesus and witnessed to so many people about the love of God. He gave so much of himself to others. He had a big heart. There is no doubt whatsoever that Rickey is in paradise with our Heavenly Father. Rickey will be missed here on earth by so many.

I knew Rickey, as we called him since the 90's he went to Celebration Church with me and my husband. I'll never forget when he played Jesus. He was so excited I sang in the choir and praise team. They had to fit him just right for his costume, he was so hairy. Rickey was a light and had such a servants heart. He will be missed by so many. Hugs and prayers to the family.

Rickey was one of my favorite sales people. His willingness to find the product we were looking for. His spirit was infectious. His willingness to help any one in anyway that he could was beyond what I have ever heard of anyone doing. He will be missed by all of us at Custom Fabrication. Our Condolences to his family.
May he rest in peace..

On the morning of 7/31/23, while I was shopping for groceries in Walmart, I ran into an old friend, Rickey Kenning, whom I had not seen for 20 years. While we were chatting, my heart suddenly went into atrial fibrillation, which meant that it was no longer sending oxygen into my brain. I collapsed to the floor and Rickey called an ambulance. Then he stayed with me until the ambulance arrived, and even drove to my home in order to get my wife and drive her to where our only car was parked so that she could get to the hospital, too.
Since that day, I have always considered Rickey to be an Angel, God's rescuer.

Rickey was a devotee of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos and would come by very often to pray at the Seelos Shrine. I volunteer in the gift shop and that´s how I met him. My coworker Geri and I were always happy to see Rickey, usually on a Thursday afternoon right before we closed. He would buy small crosses to pass out to everyone he met. He was so generous and was a joy to know. My sincere condolences to his family. May he rest in peace in God´s loving arms.

I was a member of St. Michael´s Church and was in his wife Allison´s Church Choir. I so enjoyed having conversations with her husband Richard known as Rickey. He was always so enthusiastic and supportive of his church family, her choir, their two boys whom I adored and later the extended family brought into his life of brides and grandchild Atticus. He was a great conversationalist who knew many topics about various subjects. He truly loved being around our church family. I am saddened that he has passed away much younger than I. My Family and I have since left the area and now live in Northeast Tennessee on the Virginia border. I pray that God grants his family peace and comfort. That Rickey is in that place where we go back to from whence we come, in that Heavenly place our spiritual home.He is now with our Father God. Amen Jeanne Jack Richard Cline

My best memory of Ricky was going to Minnesota with him to watch the Saints. His passion for the Saints was infectious! He was a very kind person and will be missed.
