RICHARD S. LEVICK

We are sad to announce his passing on April 11, 2023, at the age of 65. He is survived by his loving mother, Honey Levick, his sisters Jil Levick (Ben Alpert), Deb Lindsey (David) and sister-in law, Julia Gertler. Richard was the uncle to many nieces and nephews, Max and Dan Alpert, Hannah and Wyatt Lindsey, Carly, Nathan Gertler, and Amanda Gertler Light (Jason). He is met in heaven by his father, Robert Levick and brother, Gary Gertler.

Richard was the Chairman & CEO of LEVICK, a Washington, DC, crisis communications and public affairs firm, representing countries and companies in the highest-stakes global matters.

He was honored multiple times on the prestigious list of "The 100 Most Influential People in the Boardroom" and has been named to several professional Halls of Fame for lifetime achievement.

Richard was the co-author of four books and was a regular commentator on television and in print. He provided keynote speeches all over the world and frequently lectured at Harvard, Stanford, West Point, the U.S. Army War College and Georgetown Law, among many others. He was the former Director of the American University School of Public Affairs Leadership Program and recently was a Professor at Fordham Law School.

Richard was loved deeply by the many lives he touched with his brilliance and kindness. He had a great love of all sports, gourmet cooking, nature walks in Rock Creek Park with friends, mountain hikes, and his passion for his profession.

Service will be private.

I met Richard in 2000 and we hit it off immediately. Spending time with him was pure joy. He was kind, brilliant and funny. We lost touch a few years back. Last night I had a dream about him and today looked him up online to see what he was up to. I was in shock to see he had passed. I was blessed to have had him in my life.

Rick was my closest friend in high school. We were close football teammates; trained together, ate lunch together, even worked together at a summer camp. I am so grateful for his freindship in those formative years, and for our recent good conversations. Rick, I hope to see you on the other side, my friend.

I first came to know Richard more than 50 years ago. Throughout time, he never wavered in his friendship and loyalty. Remarkable man.
Love you, Richard,

In the fall of 1984, Richard and I met for lunch in Lansing, MI. He was just finishing his stint as the director of PIRGIM and was deciding whether to attend law school in Boston or Washington. He was still very interested in politics, but said he had grown up since his days at the University of Michigan, when we first met. He said he was much more realistic now and understood that he would not change the world. He was wrong. He changed everything and everyone he touched. Rest in peace, my dear, smart, funny, amazing friend. May your light burn bright forever.
