Richard Lorber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2023.
Richard "Dick" Theodore Lorber, 82, of Milpitas, CA passed away on January 20, 2023 at his home after battling Alzheimer's. He was born in Virginia on May 1, 1940 to Ted and Harriet Lorber. He earned his Bachelors in Business and Public Administration from Temple University and followed with two years in the Army, where he was stationed in Germany. The experience in the military created strong friendships and fond stories he'd often recount about his army buddies and his travels while on leave.Richard had a gift for small talk and chatting it up which served him well in business at his Baskin Robbins ice cream store and later at his Tudie's Card and Party shop.In May of 1975, he eloped with Cathy Eiswirth, who supported his love of ice cream and his passion for golf.At Las Positas Golf course in Livermore he achieved his claim to fame when he drove the ball 156 yards on the 11th hole for a hole in one. If he wasn't golfing, he was outside in nature. He hiked just about every trail in the Bay Area. Those who knew him will remember him for his cordial personality, his joking nature and his penchant for doing things his own way. Richard had a strong belief in treating everyone with courtesy and respect and innately understood the importance of being a "decent human being."He loved the view of the Calaveras Hills from his home and appreciated the good life that he lived.Richard Lorber was preceded in death by Cathy Eiswirth Lorber. He is survived by his daughters, Penny Lorber and Tammy Lorber, and his grandchildren, Ella and Mia.A memorial will be held in his honor at 4pm on 1/29/23 at Los Lagos Golf Course, 2995 Tuers Rd, San Jose, CA 95121.
