Richard Louis Matter

Richard Louis Matter of Arlington, VA and Naples, FL departed this life on February 4, 2012 at age 73.
Born in San Diego, CA, he was preceded in death by his parents, Rear Admiral Alfred Richard Matter, USN (Retired) and Elizabeth Parks Matter.
In his youth, Richard attended many schools and was a graduate of Saint James School in St. James, MD. He received a B. A. from American University in Washington, DC and was retired from the Department of Labor.
Richard loved life and lived it to the fullest.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held on February 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Arlington, VA.
Interment will be at a later date in Wilmington, DE.
Memorials may be made to Saint James School, 17641 College Road, St. James, MD 21740.

It's probably a bit late for this entry but I'm Stan Dunlap, Richards cousin. I'm 53 years old hence a cousin x removed... I knew Richard really well. He had stories that could only closely match mine in terms of living large in early years, in fact his were bigger and probably more honest :). He was with my wife Lisa and I a year ago in Palo Alto, CA and was not well. The following year wasn't perfect for him but her pushed forward. I have huge memories of great moments with him. He is family. And, he beat me at tennis earlier with cheap drop shots. He didn't run, but I did - and he laughed all the while. He won - and I'm sorry he is not on the planet. I miss him.

I was a classmate of Dick at Saint James School. I enjoyed catching up with him when he attended our 50th reunion. We will all miss Dick. My condolences to the family and friends.
