Richard MILLER Obituary
July 23, 1960 - October 26, 2013
It is with deep sadness that Rick's family announces his passing at the age of 53.
Rick will be sadly missed by his wife Lois; daughter Kimberly; son Christopher (Jordyn); and grandson Gracin. He is survived by his parents Arthur and Barbara; a sister and three brothers; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. Rick was predeceased by daughter Nicole in 1993.
Rick lived a full life with a broad range of interests. He spent many years in the air as a hang glider pilot and later in the cockpit of glider planes. He was a businessman with his brothers in the family business, Alberta Stamp & Marking Co. Ltd. An active Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Edmonton Gateway, Rick was always a passionate, community-minded person. He carried that dedication forward into another aspect of service by becoming involved in Alberta politics as an Alberta Liberal. He served as the MLA for Edmonton- Rutherford for one term, and then as Chief of Staff for the Alberta Liberal Caucus. Rick touched many lives, and all were better because of it.
A Service will be held at Hosanna Lutheran Church (9009 - 163 Street) on Friday, November 1 at 13:00, and a public Celebration of Rick's life will be held on November 15 at the Delta Edmonton South (4404 Gateway Boulevard) from 13:30 to 16:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Cross Cancer Institute for prostate cancer research, or the Grey Nuns Hospital Unit 43 for Palliative Care.

The newest angel is smiling down on us all. While we didn't know Rick for very long he has left a permanent mark in our hearts. As George Eliot said,

An exceptional pilot with good judgment. Intelligent, wise, caring and sharing. I felt honored to know and learn from him. Rick was respected by everyone who met him. Truly a great man.

Very sad news, I had the opportunity to work with Rick on a number of different projects to benefit the community and his passion for the doing the right thing was obvious. A loss for his family and his extended famly, all the people he helped in his work.

Dear Lois and family. You would have no idea who we are but we would like you to know that we met Rick on a number of occasions while during his term as our MLA and occasionally after.
Not only did we appreciate him as our MLA but he endeared himself to us in an inexplicable way. Needless to say, we are extremely saddened to learn of Rick's passing and trust that God will grant you extra strength and His peace during this difficult time.
PS Chris may well remember me as one of his junior high teachers at Ottewell School.

more than decade ago, when I decided to join the Ab Liberal Party, Rick Miller was the first one to call me and we had a long enjoyable/informative conversation. Because of him I joined the Rutherford Liberal Constit volunteer board and worked with him thru 3 prov elections. I was there at his Blue Quill election headquarters the nite he won his first election so long ago I hav forgotten what yr it was. Rick was a very decent wonderful social person and I am one of the many who are saddened by his passing. Condolences to his family. Happy trails to u Rick.
