Richard Otterman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 21, 2012.
Richard Lee Otterman, known to most as "Dick", age 83, passed away quietly in his Mogadore home on Tuesday, September 18th, 2012.

Born in 1929 in Akron, Ohio to the late Marguerite and Jack Otterman, Dick attended Robinson Grade School, and later, East High School. Dick had five siblings, with whom he was incredibly close: the late Doris (Warren) Hahn, Robert (Barbara) Otterman of Akron, Linda Vaughn of Palm City, Florida, Janet Passeos of Akron, and Frank (Cheryl) Otterman, of Kansas City, Missouri.

Dick had a passion for life and a vibrant personality that was contagious to all. With an exuberant presence, Dick loved to tell stories that kept the smallest children on the edge of their seats and the adults rolling with laughter. Dick had many friends, both old and new, with whom he enjoyed playing poker and other card games. He especially enjoyed politics and sharing a meal with loved ones. Most recently, he loved to entertain guests on his porch and wave at neighbors; no one was a stranger to Dick.

Dick is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol (aka "Dutchie"), and his three children, Jeff Otterman, Leigh Mihalich, and Yvette (Dave) Zingery. He had five grandchildren, Seth, Hannah, Samuel, Jeff, and Greta, and three great-grandchildren.

All are welcome for a memorial service, which will be held on Saturday, September 22nd at 11 a.m. at North Springfield Presbyterian Church, 671 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio.

There is no greater comfort than the love and support of friends and family surrounding Yvette and me since Dick's death, they are all we have left of him . . five months have passed and we know it's time to let go but the pain lives on. . . not only with us but his older children, his brothers and sisters his nieces and his faithful card pals . . even the mailman and the neighbors, for Dick was an irreplaceable presence and we all loved him very much . . . to them, we say hang in there and one day we'll all be together in paradise. Some of you who have taken the time to write I don't know personally but we take your beautiful messages to our hearts and may God bless you

Dear Carol, sorry we were unable to attend Dick's service but we had a most willing and able substitute in Mike. We were able to listen to a lot of it and it was comforting. He had a great send off. Our prayers are with you and the family. Love, Cheryl & Frank

My prayers of peace are with you, Carol, Yvette and family. I have wonderful memories of Dick Otterman. I was always welcome in the Otterman house and Dick never failed to have a beaming smile, story or joke for me. He had a zest for life and will always be remembered fondly in my heart and in others that he touched.
