Richard POIRIER Obituary
After a ferocious battle with cancer, Richard "Rick" Poirier passed away on November 21, 2014.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Rosenberg); daughter, Alex; and son, Adam; along with his mother, Eleanor; brother, Tony; and sister, Camille. He is also survived by aunts, Venice Poirier and Theresa Sarnecki; mother-in-law, Ilsetraut; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Maurice.
He loved his extended family and rarely missed occasions to be with them. He also loved his work at the University and a great many people there called him friend. And friends – he had a lot of those who have stayed true to him for a lifetime.
As a young man he was a gifted athlete, playing baseball, hockey, soccer and running track. As an adult he enjoyed playing hockey with the Methuselahs and the Lights. He also loved coaching Adam's hockey and soccer teams. Rick loved to travel all over the world with both his friends and his family. He liked being out on the golf course. His favorite place on earth though, was the family cottage at Garner Lake. Even while battling cancer, he found great peace there. Above all he loved his kids more than anything.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., at Resurrection Catholic Parish, 10555-50A Street, Edmonton.

Dear Pat and family, I am truly sorry for the loss of your beloved husband and father. I may have met Rick at the ATA, I just can't recall. What I do remember Pat, is that you always talked about your beloved Rick and I could tell that he was the love of your life. I just found this sad story on Facebook, so I apologize if my condolence and message of sympathy upsets you. Please know you are in my heart and my prayers.

I just heard of the news today, and am very sadden of the lost of a good person/friend..my heart goes out to Eleanor, Tony, Camille, Pat and the kids. He is resting and not in pain anymore. It is a very very SAD day for me.

Rick and I were good friends during our youth. I was introduced to Rick through his cousin, Dean Sarnecki. Because we lived only 5 houses apart, we did a lot of activities together: football and baseball in the park, road hockey in our alley, mini sticks in his basement. Sadly, time and life takes each of us in different directions but these are still cherished memories for me. To Eleanor... the pain you must be feeling at losing one of your children is beyond my comprehension. Know that you and your family have woven a piece of yourselves into my heart. To Pat, Alex and Adam, my thoughts and prayers are with each of you as I offer my sincerest and heartfelt condolences.
