Richard F. Postma

LAWRENCE ~ Funeral services for Richard F. Postma, 85, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Washington Creek Church of the Brethren in rural Douglas County. He died Monday, May 19, 2003, at a Baldwin City care center. Mr. Postma was a grain and dairy farmer in Douglas County in partnership with his father and brother, Laurie. He was born July 1, 1917, in Willow Springs, to William H. and Mary L. Flory Postma. He married Velma Vance Turner on Oct. 12, 1986, in Washington Creek Church of the Brethren. She survives. Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Waneta Turner, Lawrence; a nephew, Robert J. Shoemaker, Topeka; and two nieces, Wanda Sue Shoemaker, Lawrence, and Shirley J. Buek, Burlingame. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pleasant Grove. Mr. Postma will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Creek Church of the Brethren or the Heart of America Hospice and sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th, Lawrence, 66044-3402.
