Punta Gorda - Richard J. Rand, Jr. D.M.D., a devoted husband, father, and dedicated member of the community, died on October 3, 2023, at 76 years old, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion, dedication, and love.

Dick was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 26, 1947, to Richard J. and Joy (Growden) Rand. He graduated Kenyon College in 1970 before pursuing his passion for dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine, from which he graduated in 1974. He opened his private dental practice in Punta Gorda in 1975.

Dick married the love of his life, Margaret, on Boxing Day, 1970. He was a loving father to three sons and cherished Grandad to four grandchildren.

Dick was also deeply committed to his community through various organizations; he was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Punta Gorda Elks, and an active member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, West Coast Dental Association, Lee County Dental Society, and Charlotte County Dental Society.

Beyond his professional and community involvements, Dick had a lifelong love for boating, fishing, reading, music, genealogy. His palm and bromeliad garden was a testament to his love for nature and beauty.

Richard is survived by his wife, Margaret (Thomas), sons Richard III (Christine), John (Erin), sister Ellen (Dave), and four grandchildren, Lincoln, Lucas, Rosie, and Richard IV. He was predeceased by his parents, and son Robert J.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (Pan-CAN.org).

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 3, at 2 pm at New Life Church Sanctuary, 507 West Marion Ave, Punta Gorda, FL 33950, with Rev. John Bryant, Pastor Emeritus, officiating. The service will be a celebration of Richard's life and the impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
