Richard "Rick" Adrian Metcalfe

Richard “Rick” Adrian Metcalfe, of Ewing, VA, originally from Lancaster, KY, departed this earthly life on September 5, 2025, at his home in Baileytown after a hard-fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on February 2, 1956, to the late Robert and Willa Mae Eagle Metcalfe. After marrying and moving to Virginia, he became a member of Bethany Christian Church in Ewing, VA.

Rick spent a decade working at Bell County Coal before building his own truck and forming Metcalfe Trucking, Inc. Choosing to spend more time at home with his family, he began a 20-year career with the Virginia Department of Transportation, retiring in 2018. He then filled his days fishing, racing, restoring his 1937 Chevy Coupe, and spending time at Hill’s Truck Repair. He was fiercely loyal to the University of Kentucky Wildcats and never missed watching a game.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Robbie” Metcalfe.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Lynn B. Metcalfe; daughter, Adriane Metcalfe; son-in-law, Landon Wilder; sister Donna (John) Paynter; sister-in-law, Linda Metcalfe and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Charley and Gavin Chilton, whom he loved dearly and embraced as family. Rick’s circle of friends reached far and wide, each of whom held a dear place in his life.

The family of Rick Metcalfe will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at the Cawood Funeral Home Chapel, Middlesboro, KY. A short memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Irving Gipson, presiding. To honor his request to be cremated, no graveside service will be held.

Honorary pallbearers are Adam Barnes, Jimmy Barnes, Cody Cain, Alan Hill, Doug Hill, Dakota Knuckles, John Knuckles, Ben Mayes, Larry Neal, Zach Perry, Chris Sutphin, and Landon Wilder.
