Richard Roberts Obituary
Grand Ledge, MI - Richard Kenneth Roberts, age 79, a resident of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Grand Ledge, Michigan, went to be with his Lord on June 1, 2018. To his family and friends, Richard was known as Dick. He was born March 6, 1939 in Lansing, MI, son of Kenneth and Elizabeth (Wolhfert) Roberts. Dick was the retired owner of ACE Hardware stores in the Greater Lansing area. In his earlier career, Dick had founded his own company in the construction service industry, worked many years in his father's construction company (Ken Roberts Construction Inc.), held positions at IBM, and served in the United States Navy.
Dick was a parishioner at St. Gerard Catholic Church in Lansing, MI as well as at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, FL. In his retirement, Dick enjoyed power boating and had been a member of the Burnt Store Isles Boat Club in Punta Gorda. He also enjoyed fishing and kayaking. Dick volunteered at Bayfront Health in Port Charlotte, FL. He also enjoyed small projects and keeping busy. While Dick was active in the operations of his hardware stores, he especially enjoyed supporting local 4H clubs by purchasing grand champion small animals at the county fair and donating them back for reauction.
Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy, sons John (Robin) and Jim Roberts, nine grandchildren: Patrick (Marleene) Wassner, Nicholas Wassner, Matthew (Elizabeth) Wassner, Jacob Wassner, Ellyn Roberts, Hayden Roberts, Kenneth Roberts, Christian (Kalli) Roberts, and Hannah Roberts; as well as five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan Roberts in 2017.
Memorial Mass to be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Hwy., Lansing, MI 48917, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Inurnment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, FL in memory of Richard Kenneth Roberts. The family has entrusted arrangements to Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com
