Richard (Dick) Joseph Robertson, 73, St. Joseph, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008.
Dick was born Sept. 8, 1935, in St. Joseph, where he lived all his life.
He married Mary Alice Delaney on Aug. 22, 1959, who survives the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Laura (Rupp) Robertson; father- and mother-in-law, Bernard and Virginia (Estes) Delaney; sister Mary Therese Cargill; brother-in-law Ralph Cargill; sister-in-law Pat (Leddy) Robertson; brother- and sister-in-law Bernie and Nikkie (Buck) Delaney of Oregon, Mo.; and grandchild Alexander Voltmer.
Dick graduated from Christian Brothers High School and St. Joseph Junior College. He served his country by enlisting in the Army during the Korean War.
He was Treasurer for Leo Robertson Tire Company, and later was an insurance salesman with Metropolitan Life and owner of Robchem Chemical Company.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved his farm in Clarksdale, Mo.
He was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Church, where he was an usher and server.
Dick was very involved in community activities. He was Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus order 571, a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, a former member of Kiwanis, Southside Rotary, and Library Board, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Robertson, and Matt Robertson and wife Jill; two daughters, Catherine Bain and husband Richard, and Jill Voltmer and husband Steve, all of St. Joseph; six grandchildren, Nathan Bain, Joseph and Delaney Voltmer, and Gabriel, Reese, and Ireland Robertson.
Additional survivors include brothers, Jimmy and Jolene Robertson, Tommy Robertson, all of St. Joseph, Jerry and Joannie Robertson, Medford, Ore., and John and Carolyn Robertson, St. Joseph; brothers-in-law Bob and Carolyn (Delaney) Fisher, Platte Woods, Mo., and Maurice and Diane (Furlong) Delaney, St. Joseph; 31 nieces and nephews and their children.
Dick enjoyed spending his time with his children and grandchildren and taught them many values they will treasure for the rest of their lives.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Francis Xavier Church, St. Joseph. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the church, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Xavier Church or the Bernard and Virginia Delaney Scholarship Fund, care of Bishop LeBlond High School.
