I met Rich in 1984 and we were friends eversince. I will miss our regular chats sharing insights about work and the spirit. We crossed many paths after ARCO including IFMA and various work assignments. I never left a meeting with you without a smile you always managed to duplicate in me as you shared your joy for life. I will miss you friend. Blessings and Peace. Dennis Kniery

Just heard about Ricks passing in the refections from Carroll High School. During Covid all my siblings would zoom with our mom and interview her asking about her life. The Roys were brought us several times. We even tried to find Rich but with no luck. I am so sorry to here of his passing. Prayers to all who knew and loved him

We lived across the creek from the Roy´s in Dayton, Ohio in the 60´s. Our parents were good friends. Rich was 11 years older than me and I remember having a crush on him, and while at his house with our Mom´s visiting, watched Mrs. Roy iron her sheets! We had 5 kids in our family and our Mom did not iron sheets. His Mom was my younger sister and my confirmation sponsors at St Helen´s. Good people!

I had to share this memorable story about rich. He had his isms. But did you know he also had his own cash register key? He had a thing for pizzas cut into squares and in Roanoke Texas and close to work there is a pizza shop with his own "square pizza key". Rich had alot of class and character. Rest in peace my friend. If I had to guess this was at Inzos Italian Kitchen.

I met Rich at work and the photo is from our summit in Forest City North Carolina. He earned the nickname "most interesting man in the world" for two reasons. First his life experiences were fun to listen to. Second he was classy. I recall when he was ready to retire he mentioned he had lost alot of weight and did not know why. I wish I had reached out and said hello more often. He was modest, classy, relatable, and did not hesitate to share an experience with another person. He should have taught social skills at a PHD level. Always well dressed and well spoken with a dash of revelation in his Richisms, I did not know anyone that did not line him. Our work was often difficult with such things as balancing production and relationships, but Rich knew the balance. He even took the time to once illustrate the math behind manpower and hours with me. Texas is superb and Rich just made it so much better. His knowledge of mechanical systems was something rarely rivaled. His smile warmed the hearts of those who travel far from home, the weary, the down trodden. Relatable, classy, intellegent, father, grandfather, he certainly held every trophy in life. Well done my friend. I just wish you had more time to enjoy it. You are missed.

When we first met at the Facebook project I knew that we would not only be great coworkers but best friends. I learned so much from you and even though we were polar opposites in our political beliefs it never interfered with our friendship and mutual admiration for each other.
It was so unfair what this illness did to you and all I wanted to do is somehow take it all away and make it better for you. I´ll miss our talks about our grandkids, the Beatles, the Giants vs the Cowboys with and without Eli Manning, and work. But most of all I´ll always miss you being just a phone call away even it was just to hear your voice and one of your Richisms. It´ s a great testimony to you just how many people loved you my dear friend. Rest in peace.

When we met at the Facebook project I knew we were going to not only be amazing working companions but also best friends. Even though we were at polar opposite ends of the political spectrum it never interfered with our deep friendship and love for each other. I learned so much from you and watching and speaking with you during your illness made me want to take all of that away from you. You just didn´t deserve that. I´ll miss our talks about our grandkids, about work, about the Giants and the Cowboys, but most of all I´ll miss not having you a phone call away. Love you brother. Rest in peace my best friend.
