Richard Steinheider Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 23, 2025.
Richard Lee Steinheider, 80, passed away in Leesburg, Virginia, surrounded by family. Born on September 20, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Wilt and Alphie Steinheider, Richard graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Forestry before serving his country in the United States Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following his military service, Richard built a career in logistics, planning, and business management with Johnson & Johnson and Mobil Chemical. His work took him to Menlo Park, California; Pennington, New Jersey; Shawnee, Oklahoma; and finally Rochester, New York, where he and his wife raised their family. Richard was involved in his children's sports, serving as a supporter and participant in their activities. He and his wife were also active members of ballroom dancing clubs in Rochester. As a member of Mt. Rise United Church of Christ in Perinton, NY. Richard served as property manager and contributed significantly to the renovation of the church building. In recent years, he was a member of the Sterling Unitarian Universalist Church in Virginia. A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Richard was passionate about fly fishing and an active member of the Canandaigua chapter of Trout Unlimited. He traveled across the country and to South America in pursuit of great outdoor experiences and the thrill of a great catch. In the summertime, he could often be found at farmers markets, gathering fresh produce to make homemade jams and pies - a tradition that brought joy to family and friends alike. In 2017, Richard and Judith moved to Leesburg, Virginia, to be closer to their daughter and her family. Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judith; his son Jeffrey (Elizabeth); his daughter Janice (Erik); and his grandchildren Ella, Clayton, Cameron, and Nora. He also leaves behind his brother James (Sally), their children Eric, Brett, and Jill, and their families. He will be remembered for his integrity, quiet humor, love of nature, and devotion to his loved ones. Richard's life was marked by service, hard work, community involvement, and a steadfast love for family - a legacy that will be treasured for generations. A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
