Richard Supalo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2024.
Richard Micheal Supalo passed peacefully on Sept. 28, 2024 just shy of his 86th Birthday. Richard was born on Oct. 9, 1938 in a small town of Mora, Minnesota. He had a rough childhood and lived mostly with his grandmother helping her on the farm and delivering newspapers for extra money.

His High School days were completed at North High School, MN with his graduation occurring in 1956.He was very athletic and participated in many sports with his colleagues such as Bowling, Gymnastics, and Softball leagues. After graduation he enlisted in the US Marine Corps on Aug 2, 1956 where he remained for four years of service with an honorable discharge in December 1960.

Then he started a new life. He pursued the airlines and was trained as an Airline Mechanic starting with North Central/ Republic Airlines and then to Northwest Airlines. He rapidly climbed up the ladder by taking other skilled airline opportunities. He was a crew chief in charge of training new mechanics and then became the General Chairman of the Teamsters representing the Mechanics Union. This involved much travel throughout the country resolving disputes from various crews.

He retired in the early 1990's but had enjoyed many years of travel (free Vouchers) on Northwest to many countries and locations in the U.S. He moved to Fort Myers, Florida permanently and started more adventures. Golfing was his new passion. But he also volunteered and worked for the Census Dept. every 10 years, Florida Rep Theater usher and parker, a Poll worker for the elections and PGA Golf Tournaments for both men and women.

In 2000 as a Census worker, he met Allie (Berta) Steidel. Our lives were never dull always travelling and flying either in North America or to overseas countries. We enjoyed being with each other and friends leading us to be married in 2009.

He loved his family dearly. He also loved his Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. He is survived by his wife Allie (Berta) Supalo and his two children Rich and Terri Supalo; his granddaughter, Danielle (Brett) Kainbach and Great-Granddaughter, Oaklynn and his grandson, Nathan (Terri's son).

A Celebration of Life will be held at the end of November for family and friends.

In lieu of Flowers a memorial contribution can be made to the Cancer Society or Heart Association of America. All arrangements have been made by the National Cremation Society.

Richard would always have a smile on his face and would light up a room especially for a party. Richard was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Richard revived the Greater Fort Myers Democratic Club and served as president for severak years. His fund raising talents created necessary for the club to play an active role in local politics as well as benefitting the Lee County Democratic Party. Our golf outings were always great. In addition to local courses they included outings to Inverness, St. Augustine and other locations. I am proud to be able to say Richar was a mentor and a friend
