I was privileged to serve with Richard in 17/21st Lancers in the 1970s. A great mentor, friend, riding instructor, and competitor to a brash colonial. Tough, uncompromising, thoroughly professional, and fun. Greatly missed.

During animated discussion in the cockpit, I got lost flying him by helicopter in Germany. Whilst trying to recover the situation by asking air traffic for a radar position he rumbled me and continued our conversation. A great character who will be much missed. DGS

First Sqn Ldr in Cyprus in 1971. Gave me 6 weeks Orderly Officer and confined to barracks. Probably deserved it. Great character. RIP
