Richard Syversen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 3, 2025.
Richard Norman Syversen, age 76, passed away on June 1, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Rich was born on September 2, 1948, in Stoughton, Wisconsin, to Harry and Phyllis Syversen. He was raised knowing the importance of kindness and generosity; qualities he carried with him throughout his life and shared freely with everyone he met.

A friend to all, Rich had a gift for connecting with people. Known by many in Arlington Heights, he never met a stranger and was always ready with a smile, a story, or a dog. Rich brought warmth into every room he entered and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Rich spent his career working for AT&T, where he formed lifelong friendships and was known for his steady work ethic and good humor. He retired after 40 years of service.

Rich proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for six years beginning in 1970, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E-5).

Rich is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 51 years, Nancy; his son Eric Syversen and his wife Amy, their children Camden and Addison Syversen; his daughter Ann Syversen Bullis and her husband Brian Bullis, their children Catie and Ellie Bullis; and his son Chris Syversen and his wife Sarah, their children Oliver and Avery Syversen. He is also survived by his sisters Marge (Mickey) Gershtenson and Jen Mason, his sister-in-law Connie (John) Tracy, his brothers-in-law, Steve Wickes and Ron Wickes along with many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Phyllis, and brother-in-law, Mickey Gershtenson.

A celebration of Rich's life will be planned for a later date.

Richie was a fantastic brother-in-law. He was fun to be around. The way he loved and took care of his wife, my sister, set the example for the whole family. Semper Fi Richie.
