Spartanburg, SC- Richard Herbert Thompson, Sr., 79, husband of Janice Sherbert Thompson, died Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Born August 29, 1943 in Pacolet, SC, Richard was a son of the late Dever Wilburn and Mary Solmon Thompson. He was a graduate of Pacolet High School and retired from Milliken Packaging. Richard was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a hardworking man who loved his family.
Richard and Janice were longtime members of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, Richard is survived by two sons, Rick Thompson (Lisa) and Derek Thompson (Becky); a daughter, Nancy T. Sosbee (Jimmy); grandchildren, Steven Sosbee (Sydney) and Alex T. Mace (Buford); and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was the last survivor of his immediate family, predeceased by brothers, Wayne and Dever Thompson; and sisters, Ruby Thompson, Betty Lou Thompson, Mary Sue Hood, Geneva O’Dell, Carolyn Shockley, and Janice Gregory.
He was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Madison Elisa Thompson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 7th, 11:00AM until 12:45PM at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the Chapel at 1:00PM, officiated by Reverend Michael Boyter.
Burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In remembrance of Richard, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
