Richard Tompkins Obituary
Richard Tompkins departed this life on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by family. Richie graduated from Stratford High School and was retired from the Bridgeport Board of Education. Richie's legacy and memories will live on through his loving wife, Doris; two daughters, Monique McAllister (Samuel) and Joy Richardson; mother, Dorothy Tompkins; sister, Annis Tompkins Drye; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Christ the Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church, 785 Boston Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06610. The viewing will begin at 2:30 P.M. until time of service at 3:30 P.M. Burial will be held at Mountain Grove at 2675 North Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604 at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 18, 2013. I will always have fond memories of Richie from playing basketball with him at Johnson Jr High and also at Stratford HS. Always smiling and always happy,never said a bad word about anyone. A great role model. My prayers are with you Doris and you family. Rob Cockfield

Sympathy & Prayers to the Tompkins Family. I remember Richie's kindness & caring - how he always looked out for us younger kids back in the day in FPV (Yellow Mill then). I am sure that his actions & attitude carried into adulthood. I know he will be sorely missed. May God bless and comfort you all.

I still don't know what to say. My heart is still heavy. You will DEFINITELY be missed. Such an important piece to the Tompkins family. So loved and respected by so many. I count it a privilege to have had the opportunity to get to know you personally. No matter what the situation was you always treated me like family. I wish you were here to input more of your knowledge into your grandson on the character of a real man because he can never have too many quality role models. I am truly saddened by Richie's death. Richie was an amazing person. He was always so kind and considerate to us at 948 Main Street that we always welcomed seeing him at every opportunity.
His passing will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of everyone who knew him. His smile will always remain deep within my heart.
