Voss, Richard

Richard Voss passed away on December 1, 2014. He was born of German immigrant parents in Manhattan, June 20, 1942. He was raised in Yonkers and attended the public schools. His sixth grade teacher Mrs. Bosik thought enough of his abilities to encourage him academically. This urged his parents to enroll him in Concordia High School in Bronxville. After graduation he attended Drexel University in Philadelphia PA where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering. During the Vietnam War, he served in the Army. After his discharge he worked for UPS for 30 years. Richard was an avid reader, camera buff, world traveler and opera lover. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Janina, his niece Alicia (Andy) and children Ava and Abigail Scolarino, first cousins Hildy (Horst) Krudelbach, first cousin Trudel (Bud) Corwin, and Brothers-in-law William Greger and Patsy D'Ipolito, and numerous other relatives in America and Germany. The viewing hours are from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Thursday, Dec. 4th at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Ave., White Plains, NY. There will be a memorial service on Friday Dec. 5th at 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 25 Crane Rd., Scarsdale, NY.

I did not know Richard Voss, but I must tell you how delightful it is that you have included his 6th grade teacher in his life story here. He must have been exceptional. I am very sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Eileen Burns
