Richard VOWLES Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 5, 2019.
Richard "Rich" Roy Vowles, 59, of Mesa, Arizona entered into Heaven on March 4, 2019 peacefully in his home. Rich was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Margaret (Barth) and William Hodges, the oldest of three children, on January 24, 1960. Margaret remarried Ernest Vowles, who adopted all three children and raised them as his own. At the age of 6, Rich and his family relocated to Arizona so his father could start a new career. Rich was raised with his two sisters, who looked over him like a hawk. After completing high school, Rich joined the Army. A representative of the Army told his parents that his mathematics score was the highest ever achieved. Rich loved being in the Army. He was stationed in Germany, and due to his high entry scores was placed in a specialized position in "Missile Maintenance". After his tour was complete, Rich returned to Arizona to be near his family and where he found a new passion. Rich found that he had a "green thumb" and began a beautiful garden. Rich also loved his cats, as did his mother and sisters.

Rich leaves behind his mother Margaret; sisters Sharon (David) English and Donna (Donald) Monson; His favorite niece Rachel Rodgers and his favorite nephew Steven Rodgers.

Rich is predeceased by his father Ernest.

Tomorrow evening I am taking the family to our favorite German restaurant on Glendale Ave. to celebrate Donna's birthday. The day of her birthday, June 4, is on Tuesday so getting everyone together on a work day is difficult so we are getting together tomorrow. Be sure to sit with Dad and look down on us. You both will be with us as we all celebrate your "baby sis" and her 55th birthday. You will never know how much I wish you and Dad were still with us, then I realize you both are now pain free, in a wonderful place and together again. I love you son, Mom

Hope you and Dad had an enjoyable Easter. I imagine it is absolutely beautiful in Heaven celebrating his coming back to life. My Church had 2 services...I went to the earlier one and it was full to capacity. I got to Church at 8 a.m. so I could enjoy a breakfast served up by the kids of the Church. It only cost $7.00 and had scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon and more fresh cut up fruit than you could imagine. It helps the kids pay for summer camp. First service was at 9 so I had an hour to eat, visit and talk with friends. Went to Donna's for dinner and my day was very nice. I seriously doubt it was as lovely as yours was though. Love you very much son, and miss you terribly. Knowing you are no longer in pain and not dependent on alcohol anymore helps me a lot! Mom

Donna came over last night after work and we worked on getting the right amount of your cremains ready for Sunday. Your sisters and I want our last gift to you to be a loving tribute to you. I am sure you were looking down on us as we tried to get the right amount for the minister. Good mom to the rescue...I actually got my measuring spoons and we used the tablespoon to be sure we got the right amount. Did you get a good chuckle out if it? Hope so as it made Donna and I feel better as we chuckled a little. What was supposed to be a hard, somber thing turned into a loving, happy one as we did what needed to be done. If everyone comes that has said they would, you will have a nice showing of people that want to pay tribute to you. Your passing was so hard on your sisters and me and we are hoping this loving tribute will make things a little easier for us as we think of it in the future. We will always love you my son, and although your life on earth was too short, I am so sure your life is heaven is more beautiful than we could ever imagine! Mom

Good morning Son...Hope you are enjoying your new Home. No more worrying about the pesky ankle biters, no more problems about water retention etc. In other words, you went to your new home a new man and can now enjoy up there what you were deprived of down here. I have written to Dad and by now you two should have found each other and are having a much needed loving reunion. Every time I think of you I see and hear you the way I did on February 23. I will NEVER forget your happiness and joy when you saw the Superstitions covered with snow. You were like the young boy of 11 who delighted in them way back then. Memories are all I have of you and Dad now and although I am so sad I am also so thankful they can't ever be taken away from me. Love, Mom

Good morning Son. Missing you each and every day. Even though your death was expected due to your reclining health, it has affected Sharon, Donna and Me so badly. Good news...Sharon has a date set up for the trapping of your precious kitties. She has even delayed David's daughter from moving in until the cats have been neutered. She is even taking them to her to home until it is safe for them to be released again. Talk about a sister that goes above and beyond. She knows how much you loved your kitties. Hope you and Dad have made up and are there for each other. Love you so much. Mom
