Richard Warden

Richard Hubbard Warden, (Dick or Rich to friends and family) was born on June 30, 1937, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to John and Gladys, joining siblings Ann and the late John Jr. He died on May 14, 2024, leaving us with memories of his favorite stories and sayings, sense of humor, strength of character, and above all, his love of family.

Growing up in Houghton, Dick was a true "Yooper" who learned to ski at Mont Ripley and dreamt of competing in the Olympics. Going to Dartmouth College furthered those dreams, until a broken leg derailed his plans. He always said he had no regrets, because that shift led him to the love of his life, Lynn LaMotte, to whom he was married for 54 years.

After attending business school at Stanford, Dick and Lynn built a life in Edina MN, and had three daughters, Jody, Kristin (Doherty), and Meg (Riley). Dick worked for IDS/AMEX for 36 years, managing a variety of investment portfolios.This career gave him many wonderful colleagues and enabled him to travel the world. Throughout his life, Dick enjoyed activities in every season: hunting, skiing, making maple syrup, and waterskiing. One of his favorite places was Eagle Harbor, where he was known for his brisket, bootlegs and Guts Frisbee.

Upon retirement, Dick and Lynn divided their time between Arizona and Minnesota.They enjoyed traveling with friends and spending time with family, including sons-in-law Tom Doherty and Tim Riley and many nieces and nephews. Dick especially loved being 'Bigdad' to his four granddaughters, Scout & Quinn Riley and Luci & Ava Doherty.

A celebration of Dick's life will be held this summer in Eagle Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations can go to the Palo Verde high school track team. Checks should be made out to "Palo Verde Track" and sent to: Palo Verde High Magnet School, Attn Tim Riley, 1302 S. Avenida Vega, Tucson, AZ 85710.
